SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably. SSD Formulation team is multidisciplinary covering power systems, simulation and environments, thermal and fluids management, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), autonomy, command and control, data handling and instrumentation, electrical integration and avionics, propulsion, and Artificial Intelligence. Deploying this team to serve the various projects, studies, and programs in a rapid formulation design environment will be a key responsibility while also contributing technically as an individual contributor sharing your expertise. Our group in Formulation is employing a fast-paced agile process to rapidly address early formulation work through a series of three-week sprints. This position will help lead assignments in this dynamic environment as well as be an active participant. To be successful you must embrace the right culture of bias for action while quickly delivering results. The decisions made early on will set Blue Origin up for long-term success. It also requires comfort with ambiguity and an ability to find a path forward. As our Avionics Software Architect, you will be responsible for designing and guiding the development of sophisticated avionics software systems for space applications. Your role will involve supporting proposals and prototype development while incorporating the latest advancements in AI to enhance system capabilities. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, bringing a strategic vision and expertise in avionics architecture, software engineering, and AI to design systems for the next generation of spacecraft and satellites. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in avionics software systems design and development. Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts. Experience applying AI in real-world systems. Strong knowledge of software certification standards (such as DO-178C), real-time operating systems, and embedded systems development. Ability to design complex software systems and effectively communicate architectural visions. Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and challenges with other engineering disciplines to drive effective decisions. Experience working directly with system and design engineers. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
