This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will use your specialized knowledge to enhance aerospace applications in areas such as engineering design, manufacturing, supply chain, mission operations, and customer experience. Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of software systems and infrastructure using modern languages. Craft and develop web user interfaces using the React framework. Mentor software engineers within your team and across other teams. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and flight operations teams to identify areas for improvement and reduce unnecessary complexity. Evaluate, integrate, and improve commercial products using GraphQL, RESTful web services, and message queues. Address software issues at multiple levels, including installation, deployment, configuration, as well as server-side and client-side problems. Write documentation and build architecture diagrams for software systems. Fix and resolve issues within applications and environments. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 7 years of software development experience, with a consistent track record in Python and TypeScript. Experience with AWS cloud services, and infrastructure as code (IaC) frameworks. Experience building, shipping, and maintaining production applications. Deep solid understanding of computer science fundamentals like algorithms and common data structures Ability to solve problems by writing efficient working code, even when given incomplete or ambiguous requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with and communicate sophisticated systems to a diverse user base Experience mentoring software engineers in a team setting, including architecture, design, and code review. Strong leadership and shown success in applying Agile methodologies to development processes. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion Desired: AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect - Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer - Professional). In-depth experience with serverless architectures, such as AWS Lambda and event-driven design. Expert-level skills in Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration. Proficiency in automated testing frameworks like Selenium or Cypress.
