Amazon Software Development Engineer, Amazon Visual Experience in Seattle, Washington

Description

The Amazon Visual Experience (AVX) team processes images and organizes information for billions of products, ensuring that each product image empowers customers to make informed purchasing decisions. We are looking for an innovative and result-oriented SDE to build our next generation of systems that detect and take action on image attributes across billions of product images, using our internally developed machine learning and computer vision capabilities.

We are seeking a Software Engineer that is a technology leader and demonstrates exemplary practice in design and implementation of new services. You will drive solutions for scalable, efficient, and fault tolerant services. You will act as a thought leader to influence our overall strategy by helping define product features, driving system architecture, and spearheading best practices that enable a quality product. The ideal candidate will be passionate about solving engineering challenges in distributed systems at massive scale on an ongoing basis and have a demonstrable record of accomplishment for delivering successful products. Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

  • Be responsible for the architecture of software solutions, determining current limitations and compatibility between subsystems, the selection of new concepts and methodology, and the development of major features and services

  • Develop cloud services processing millions of images by leveraging state-of-the-art technology and ML algorithms

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the definition, development, integration, test, documentation, and support of Java and C++ software, as well as and introduce new concepts and methodology

  • Partner with scientists and domain experts to launch machine-learning applications in production

  • Integrate ML algorithms and computer vision capabilities with other cloud services

  • Instill best practices for software development and documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, and delivering quality software on schedules

A day in the life

On the AVX team, Software Dev Engineer II work with Product Managers, Applied Scientist , and Data to automate Machine Learning Models and Generative AI algorithms in production workflows to classify and and create product images.

About the team

AVX team provide a complete set of accurate, informative, and consistent visual content for every product in Amazon stores by acquiring and selecting the best content from Selling Partners and contributors, and augmenting or generating new content as necessary to create a clean visual shopping experience and increase customer purchase confidence.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
