This role leads the estimating and cost controls function for Amazon physical stores team. The Retail Construction Estimator role will work cross-functionally with a diverse group of stakeholders. Retail Construction Estimator will be the team’s cost expert, working with pre-construction team, outside consultants, landlords and general contractors to develop detailed estimating tools and project budgets. Estimating will range from detailed unit takeoff and labor productivity estimating up to high-level conceptual level budgets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work on project costs from initial site review through lease negotiation and continuously refine template costs, estimating tools and project cost archive

  • Consistently manage stakeholder expectations, schedules, budgets and multiple work scopes efficiently

  • Provide detailed project quantity surveys using Onscreen Takeoff or similar tools, based on architectural and MEP plan sets

  • Develop and use team estimating tools, including work letter scope estimates, line item template estimates in Winest and high level pro forma cost inputs

  • Define and track cost performance metrics

  • Communicate cost control goals to all stakeholders effectively

  • Lead weekly meetings for high profile or as-is deliver projects, keeping all parties aligned on scope, schedule and budget

  • Identify Value Engineering opportunities in the design and quantify the savings

  • Identify project risks and the financial cost impacts associated and communicate to the broader team

  • Scale estimating function using both internal and external resources. Outsource work to external estimating firms and mentor construction team to use estimating tools

  • Find creative and innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability

  • Present construction cost budgets to cross functional teams and justifying main cost drivers

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams on mission critical tasks

  • Develop high level cost estimates utilizing initial site review information and/ or landlord correspondence

  • Travel throughout North America approximately 10% of the time

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Quantity Surveying

  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating/cost control field

  • Knowledge of MEP, Tenant Improvement scope and retail shell work

  • Experience developing and managing budgets, schedules and work letters

  • Experience conducting financial business case analysis / translate information into useful formats and draw conclusions

  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts, master agreements, work letters and other construction agreements

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $61,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $155,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
