JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Survey Research Center at Penn State is currently looking to hire field research staff to conduct and code CLASS observations in first and second grade classrooms in southeastern Pennsylvania (specifically in Schuylkill Haven and Orwigsburg).
Successful candidates will be K-3 CLASS certified and be available to work in September and May. Each observer will conduct two cycles of observation in approximately 15 classrooms over the span of a week (one week in September and one week in May).
Applicants should be willing to travel locally and have regular and reliable transportation and regular and reliable access to telephone service. Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodation: lift and carry 10 - 15 pounds of equipment and materials and climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment.
Must hold K-3 CLASS observer certification; have research experience or experience working with elementary-aged children; have strong reading and verbal skills and have basic experience with computer and Internet technology. Must be capable of establishing and maintaining a good rapport with school personnel; be self-motivated, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented; have the ability to keep detailed records of all work activities and administrative tasks; pass a criminal record check and obtain required clearances.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
