Overview:The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing the automated scripts/functionality using a hybrid framework. The Engineer will work closely with cross functional team member (Business Analyst, QA Analyst, Business SME, Developers) to understand the functionality to be automated. The Engineer will have weekly meetings with the various resources to understand, develop and demo the modular progression of the automation until it is fully delivered.

The Automation Engineer will continue to improve/assist in new and existing scripting while using best practices and standards.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Quality Assurance Automation Testing and Controls

  • Responsible for automation testing, maintaining, and supporting Boar’s Head business applications with core competencies focused on Oracle applications including but not limited to Financials, Warehouse Management System, Order Management, Business Intelligence (OBIEE), Custom Web applications and their technical integrations.

  • Primary responsibilities are focused on automating manual scripts and performance load testing.

  • Maximize test coverage for the most critical features of the system.

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve automation issues.

  • Partner with the development team to drive towards continuous delivery where every code change is thoroughly tested by the push of a button and is considered ready to be deployed.

  • Exploratory testing when needed to understand how system functionality.

  • Designs test plans and test steps; test cases will be written to the level of detail ensuring repeatability and compliance to QA standards.

  • Creation and maintenance of test plans for manual and automated test scripts enabling execution resulting in thorough analysis and accurate documentation of test results.

  • Defect Management – create, update, and manage defects working with system analysts, development, and overall project team to manage and oversee quality with coordination ensuring defect resolution.

  • Identify workflow improvements and repeatable test cases for regression/automation.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve critical business issues through assigned production support assignments, tactical enhancements, and project deliverables, which include the following:

  • Manual functional testing for focused change with defined test strategies and plans for larger initiatives

  • Developing test cases, writing new test cases from business requirements, updating existing test cases based on new business requirements.

  • Documentation of manually executed test results in testing tools.

  • Support overall QA activities by contributing to and developing automation scripts that are efficient, flexible, and reusable in UFT.

  • Improve and ensure consistency and quality in automation deliverables.

  • Apply technical expertise and understanding of current industry best practices to help forward initiatives.

  • Able to troubleshoot and identify solutions to technical challenges/blockers encountered in the automation process in UFT.

  • Able to automate tests in Oracle App, Oracle DB, SOA, Oracle Demantra.

  • Able to automate tests in Web Apps, Telnet, APIs (JSON, WSDL), and MS Office applications.

SDLC and PROD Deployment Coordination

  • Develop, prepare, and contribute to the execution of QA and UAT testing.

  • Deliver minimum bug free product to business users for UAT.

  • Respond to the needs of the user community through proactive initiatives such as weekly testing, standard documentation, and processes.

  • Manage RFCs thru the SDLC process and attend weekly Change Management meeting in preparation for PROD deployment.

  • Communicate timelines and coordinate PROD validation for approved changes.

Quality Assurance Automation Test Management Software

  • Leverage the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) application to expedite the testing cycle, specifically writing test steps in the test plan module, logging and working defects in the defect management module, and executing test plans in the test lab module.

  • Manage and maintain testing deliverables in ALM.

  • Participate, contribute, and evolve the usage of ALM – developing and implementing recommendations for process improvement initiatives.

  • Leverage Unified Functional Testing (UFT), Python, API testing tools and any additional automated testing tools as required.

  • Continuously leverages technology to evolve the QA function.

Quality Assurance Methodology & Standards

  • Participate in functional/technical design reviews, providing feedback/recommendations as appropriate and necessary, highlighting potential operational impacts, design gaps, and workflow improvement opportunities.

  • Work effectively on a fast-paced, agile team; working side-by-side with development to create and execute tests within each stage of the software development lifecycle.

  • Works with Software Development and System Analyst to provide guidelines, procedures and tools for QA and change management to include documentation, test plans, test scripts, integration plans, acceptance procedures and recovery procedures.​

  • Able to develop integration test plans which include regression testing and packaging of tests into consecutive steps based on logical dependencies to ensure quality delivery.

  • Identify what test cases should be used for functional/system integration testing and what test cases should be automated and executed as part of the regression suite.

  • Defines, contribute to, and communicate software quality assurance best practices to increase the quality of software being deployed.

  • Identifies deviances from standards and ensures modifications for compliance based on QA standards and guidelines.

  • Integrate and develop quality processes that meet business needs across the organization.

  • Participate, contribute, and maintain the following:

  • Specific QA gating criteria (executing SDLC)

  • Standards and best practices for testing

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working with data-driven and modular test automation framework.

  • Adaptability to shifting priorities as we encounter roadblocks and resource constraints.

  • Experience with UFT Version One and ALM Version 16.00.

  • Experience with UFT Object Repository Maintenance and/or Descriptive Programming.

  • Experience with UFT Parametrization, Front End and Back End Validation Checkpoints.

  • Experience with UFT global and local data tables.

  • Experience with UFT error handling and clean-up scripts.

  • Experience with UFT and various web browsers testing (Firefox, Chrome, Edge).

  • Experience writing re-usable functions in VBScript.

  • Experience working with UFT Add Ins (.Net, Java, Oracle, Terminal Emulators, UI, UIA, and Web).

Other Desirable Skills

  • Developing and integrate automating testing with DevOps tools.

  • Atlassian toolkits such as JIRA and Confluence.

  • Experience scripting and testing with Python.

  • Experience working with the Agile methodology and related testing techniques.

  • Knowledge triaging/configuring MS Windows and UFT related issues, environment variables, ODBC connections, and related issues.

  • Knowledge working with Oracle and Java plugins.

Education and Experience

  • College degree in computer science/engineering preferred. Equivalent professional experience considered in lieu of degree.

  • 2-3 years Automation Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience as a QA Analyst/Engineer, Software Systems Engineer, Programmer/Systems Analyst, or Functional Analyst.

  • 5+​ years' experience with Oracle ERP with emphases on Financials, Order Management, Warehouse Management, and/or Process Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management

  • Technical experience in supporting Oracle, Web based applications/HTML protocols, SQL skills, etc.

  • Experience working in a fast paced, cross-functional and multi-team environment.

  • Working knowledge of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Experience with HP ALM Testing Suite of Products including LoadRunner, QTP, Sprinter, and QAInspect.

  • Certifications in the following areas highly valued:

  • Software Testing Certifications

  • Oracle Applications

  • Project Management

  • Loadrunner

  • UFT / QTP

  • Proficiency in computer software with full Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio ad IT Case Management systems.
