About the role

Carrier is looking for a highly motivated and results driven Software Quality Assurance Engineer with experience in embedded systems to join the Commercial Controls Engineering team to support projects focusing on control software design and development for embedded HVAC systems.

An ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of software testing methodologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong attention to detail. This role will involve ensuring the quality and reliability of embedded software solutions through rigorous testing and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Software Quality Assurance, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Test Planning and Strategy: Develop comprehensive test plans and strategies for embedded software projects, considering the unique constraints and requirements of embedded systems.

  • Test Execution: Execute test cases, both manual and automated, to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of embedded software components and systems.

  • Regression Testing: Conduct thorough regression testing to ensure that software updates and modifications do not introduce new defects or regressions in existing functionality.

  • Defect Management: Identify, document, and track defects using issue tracking systems, and collaborate closely with development teams to ensure timely resolution.

  • Performance Testing: Perform performance testing on embedded systems to assess their responsiveness, scalability, and resource utilization under various conditions.

  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure that embedded software solutions comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices for quality assurance.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, hardware engineers, and product managers, to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement within the software development lifecycle, particularly related to testing and quality assurance practices.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of test plans, test cases, test results, and other relevant artifacts to support traceability and compliance requirements.

Requirements

We are looking for people who have strong understanding of embedded systems architecture, including hardware/software interactions and constraints.. If this is you, get in touch.

As a minimum you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in software quality assurance, with a focus on embedded systems.

  • Proficiency in software testing techniques, including manual testing, automated testing, and regression testing.

  • Experience with test automation tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Robot Framework, or similar. (Cypress, Cucumber, Pytest, UiPath, Appium)

  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols commonly used in embedded systems development (e.g., Modbus, RS485, BACnet)

  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking systems (e.g., JIRA / DevOps) is preferred.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
