Eaton Corporation Senior Transformer/Magnetics Engineer in Santa Ana, California

Eaton’s Electrical Sector is currently seeking a Senior Transformer/Magnetics Engineer in Santa Ana, CA. Relocation benefits and sponsorship will be provided for candidates residing within the United States.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $105,225 - $154,300 a year.

What you’ll do:

As a Senior Transformer/Magnetics Engineer, you will design and refine medium and high voltage dry-type transformers while meeting schedule, cost and quality targets. You'll lead cross-functional product development teams with elements of planning, risk analysis, costing, product design, reliability testing, prototyping and design of dry-type transformers in for manufacturing.

In this role, you will:

• Design low voltage power and distribution dry-type transformers 100 KvA- 3000KvA up to 600 volts and related assemblies of various complexity for quoting and manufacture. Work collaboratively with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers.

• Acts as an owner of product design and assists Manufacturing Engineering with product support and training. Assists in project management.

• Communicate electrical and mechanical design concepts to Manufacturing Engineering, assist in work instruction development and review their work.

• Work with Manufacturing Engineering to coordinate material and labor estimates from new designs, set up new part numbers in the company MRP database, and maintain digital files along with configuration control.

• Utilize and foster team development of program management methodologies and six sigma principles to drive and track project and product performance.

• Identify critical path dependencies and risks; develop risk mitigation plans; drive resolution between functions.

• Provide cross-functional project leadership for concept discussions, verification/validation plans & analyses, PPAP, scorecards, manufacturing processes & equipment, prototypes phase in/out plans, and final production.

• Apply relevant industry standards to product design, including development and execution of design verification and validation.

• Drive design for cost/design for manufacture analysis (DFM/DFA) on individual parts, subassemblies with the ability to propose alternate materials and methods of assembly and manufacturing.

• Develop sub-system functional and reliability test plans and coordinate the execution of the tests using both internal and external lab resources.

• Depending on the scope of the project may assume responsibilities to create & implement detailed designs utilizing engineering tools.

• Proactively identifies, communicates, and may aid in resolution of issues tangential to scope projects.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

• At least 5 years of experience in design, testing, and manufacturing of power and distribution transformers

• Sponsorship of candidates will be considered for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

• Familiarity with mechanical design software such as Inventor or SolidWorks

• Experience in the design and successful manufacture of single and three phase dry-type low-voltage or similar transformers and/or reactors

• UL, IEEE, NEC, and NEMA standards familiarity.

• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and how they apply to our products, including practice in design verification and validation
