Description:

Reporting to Operations Manager or Process Engineering, will minimize product costs by improving the quality and quantity of biopolymer products. Identify and minimize sources of process variation and then implement strategies for process optimization. Coordinate the transfer and scale-up of designated new products and processes from Research and Development to Production. Provide design review, cost analysis, and construction oversight for specified capital projects. The incumbent is responsible for performing preliminary engineering calculations in areas of potential cost savings by assignment. These assignments may result from suggestions by the incumbent based on engineering experience and analysis of the current operation and/or other areas. These will include preliminary experimentation and, if required, full-scale process experiments to demonstrate the process improvement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

BS in Biochemical Eng, Chemical Engineering or related field

3+ years experience in mfg fermentation environment

Requires special knowledge in the areas of fermentation science, chemical engineering, process control, and statistics

Strong organizational, communications, and leadership skills are required

Must be able to work effectively with individuals at all levels

Six Sigma a plus

Must be able to work in the plant on recovery, fermentation, cogeneration, and cooling towers to trouble shoot problems and train operators
