Valero Manager Construction Management in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Description:

Provides support to the Director Construction Management and other department staff in developing accurate, cost-effective plans and schedules for completion of construction projects. Manages the coordination and processes of design and construction teams.

  • Serves as construction project manager for multiple assigned capital initiatives with CAPEX exceeding $5MM. Responsible for overall safety performance, costs, material management, schedule, quality and operability.
  • Independently manages multimillion dollar construction projects as assigned.
  • Directs the activities of local engineering support, to include coordination with various internal departments and external design/construction contractors.
  • Coordinates with department staff and field project teams to implement project schedules, meetings, monthly cash flow analysis, cost projections, management presentations, requests for information, and proposal request preparation.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the fields of project management, drawing development, commercial construction, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Manages projects thru all phases; schematic design, design development, bidding and contract negotiations, construction administration, and closeout.
  • Identifies and incorporates cost savings and schedule opportunities intended to minimize construction duration and overall project budget.
  • Develops contract agreements that comply with applicable internal criteria, regulatory requirements, and commercial/industrial construction standards.
  • Anticipates, evaluates, and mitigates the impact of project risks and assumptions that would adversely affect the successful or planned outcome.
  • Reviews AutoCAD drawings, shop drawings, and field sketches to support and communicate project requirements to design professionals and department staff.
  • Reviews and provides final approval for released meeting minutes, submittals, pay applications, and construction documents for accuracy and conformance.
  • Establishes database and filing systems for maintaining all project documents.
  • Manages change decisions in costs, schedules, scopes, field coordination, and document interpretation in accordance with established management objectives.
  • Conducts plan reviews and site observations to ensure new buildings comply with project specifications, are fully maintainable, functional, and reflect the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Reports activities and provides channel for communicating key issues with project stakeholders and senior management.
  • Manages requisitions and purchase orders via SAP while ensuring invoicing is consistent with contract rates. Tracks each assigned project on a monthly basis to ensure financial accrual and accounting accuracy.
  • Coordinates, validates, and delivers all required project close-out documents including warrantees, equipment O&M manuals, as-built drawings, construction documents, final reports, permits, and certifications.
  • Provides findings of contract audits, plans reviews, sites observations.
  • Assists in the development departmental policy, staff training, and planning.
  • This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or higher level degree - in architecture, engineering, construction management, business administration or related discipline required.

  • 10 years of experience in leading construction management, maintenance management, and/or project engineering initiatives with an installed cost of over $10MM in the refining or petrochemical sector required.

  • Master’s or higher level degree - in architecture, engineering, construction management, business administration or related discipline preferred.

  • 15 years of experience in construction management, maintenance management, project engineering in refining or petrochemical industry with demonstrated experience leading construction and/or maintenance projects preferred.

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
