The Salt Lake City Public Library in Salt Lake City, UT. is looking to hire a Full-time Systems Administrator.

About the Position

The Systems Administrator is a member of the Information Technology Department and will provide system administration and support, project planning, technical consulting, and data analysis for software and technological solutions used throughout the Library. They will assist in the implementation of large-scale, long-term, and complex software implementations (i.e. HRIS, Remote Management, MDM, PC Management, Library ILS, etc.) and provide ongoing support. Will serve as the project focal point and liaison between the library and system software vendors. Responsible for analyzing and solving complex problems associated with large computer system implementations. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of their duties. The Systems Administrator works independently and serves as a project lead when necessary in analyzing, administering, and maintaining Library applications.

Salary: $41.26/hour or $85,820.80/annually Depending on Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities
  • Working relationships. Works with software vendors in the implementation and support of software systems. Works with the Network Engineer to ensure that application servers and systems are appropriately patched and secured, following Library security policies. Fosters good working relationships with diverse people including staff, patrons, volunteers, and vendors. Accepts assignments from supervisor, manager, or other Library staff in a professional and timely manner.

  • Subject Matter Expert. Uses defined project management standards and practices to properly plan, monitor, and deliver software implementations and upgrades. Plans and implements software and hardware lifecycle solutions ensuring systems are maintained to provide the highest levels of availability. Assist in defining technological requirements and selecting software applications and technology to meet specific Library needs.

  • Systems Administration. Implements and supports Library software solutions and technologies. Creates and designs custom reports using database utilities and other products to extract data from vendor systems for analysis. Audits system data to ensure data and system integrity. Creates and maintains system change and maintenance logs. Creates and maintains product documentation and knowledge base. Uses least privilege principles and best practices to create and maintain system security procedures and user profiles.

  • Leadership. Works with the IT manager and leadership to develop the vision and direction of enterprise-level applications and prioritize projects and allocate resources such as personnel, costs, etc.

  • Administrative Work. Attends a variety of meetings with Library departments, and technology vendors. Contributes to weekly status reports. Tracks project progress according to department procedure. Tracks time and completes timesheets and time-off requests.

  • After Hours Support. May be asked to provide occasional after-normal-business hours support, as the Library remains open later. May be asked to work occasional early mornings, nights, or weekends (in place of regular day schedule) to implement upgrades or make changes during off-hours. 

  • Other duties. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

     

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or other related field and at least 6-8 years of paid employment in inform ation technology support, administration, and/or engineering. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

  • Demonstra ed understanding of project management and software lifecycles.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing very detail-oriented processes and troubleshooting under urgent conditions.

  • Experience selecting, implementing, supporting, and maintaining client/server applications on large networks, ideally library ILS, Google Workspace, and others.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in desktop and server administration.

  • Experience providing direct support to internal customers by phone, electronically, and in person.

  • Experience working with Python, SSH, SQL scripting, or similar.

  • Experience working with RDBMS such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or MS SQL Server and demonstrable proficiency in related query tools and methods.

  • Experience in creating and maintaining a variety of PC images and associated updates and patches.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, manage, and complete several deadline-driven assignments in parallel.

  • Excellent communication skills (presentation, written, and verbal).

  • The ability to navigate complicated situations in a professional manner.

  • Valid Utah driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • Ability to perform routine record-keeping functions; exercise initiative and independent judgment and react resourcefully under varying conditions; plan and schedule work priorities effectively; communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, vendors, contractors, and the public.

     

Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish language and/or other non-English language skills.

  • Industry certifications and training in areas of specialty (AIIM, Microsoft, Cisco, HP, CompTIA, ITIL, etc.)

     

Working Environment
  • Work is performed in an urban library environment.

  • Subject to repetitive movement; standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects. May be subject to standing for long periods of time.

  • Subject to intermittent periods of inclement weather when working outside.

  • May be called upon in critical outages outside of normal working hours.

     

Schedule
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be required as part of this schedule.

Compensation
  • Starting Range Grade 23, $41.26/hour or $85,820.80/annually Depending on  qualifications
