Job Summary

The position will be part of the DFPM Finance team within DFPM Central Administration that provides support and services across the department.

Primary tasks for this position will be ensuring that monthly, quarterly and annual accounting processes are done accurately and on time. They may be involved with completing these directly, or working with staff and faculty throughout the department on their completion. They will also be heavily involved in reviewing and improving current processes.

The position provides strategic financial analysis to department management; coordinates program and operations research and analysis; and provides successful planning, administration and execution of a various programs. The position will also be involved with the maintenance of various operational dashboards. This position will be expected to independently identify projects that would add value to department missions, operations, and programs. Projects may include planning, policy development, work methods and procedures, time utilization, organizational structure, distribution of assignments and information management.

Candidates for this position should have excellent team work skills, as well as a commitment to customer service. An ideal candidate will also have experience with Microsoft Excel, EPM , PeopleSoft and with education, clinical and research operations in an Academic Medical Center setting.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Provides information related to planning, policy development, work methods and procedures, manpower utilization, organizational structure, distribution of assignments, information management.

  2. Provides program and operations research and analysis.

  3. Conducts studies, productivity analyses and surveys to improve systems.

  4. Analyzes new program plans, goals and objectives.

  5. Assists in the preparation and evaluation of special projects.

  6. Monitors department payroll processes to ensure accurate expensing and timely payments.

  7. Designs forms, tables, graphs and charts to for summarizing information.

  8. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to department/University financial issues.

  9. May be assigned special projects requiring a knowledge of governmental and business accounting practices

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years professional accounting experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.

Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions.
