Scope

  • This is a one-year position that includes completing psychological assessment, consultation, and psychotherapeutic interventions for patients ages 2-21 years with medically complex conditions, across the continuum of care. The intern will be responsible for patients in the inpatient medical and in the outpatient setting. The internship provides opportunity for further development of expertise in pediatric medical psychology. For interns with neuropsychological emphasis, testing skills across multiple levels of care, focused on diagnostic clarification and treatment planning—TBI, Epilepsy, Spina Bifida, and neurodevelopmental difficulties, as well as other developmental conditions, behavioral disturbance, cognitive/learning problems, case conceptualization. Treatment interventions in the outpatient clinic involve patients with a wide range of medical (e.g., adherence, adjustment, medical trauma, ARFID, chronic pain, grief and loss) and mental health (anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral disturbance) struggles. Telehealth is a component of the program for a portion of psychotherapy cases.

  • On the medical units, our interns have the opportunity to consult with multidisciplinary medical subspecialty teams, participate in case conferences and treatment planning, and provide direct care to assist with behavioral health concerns impacting hospitalization and/ or medical care. All of our interns will be involved in didactic trainings and seminars, and there are also opportunities to participate in various training activities associated with our APA-accredited internship program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Psychology resident license from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) by the start of the Internship.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
