The Leonardo Director of Hospitality and Sales in Salt Lake City, Utah

DIRECTOR OF HOSPITALITY & SALES

The Leonardo seeks a Director of Hospitality & Sales to join our team and mission to fuse science, technology, and art in experiences that inspire creativity and innovation in people of all ages and backgrounds.

OVERVIEW

The Director of Hospitality and Sales will lead and oversee all outreach, sales, and execution for events at The Leonardo. They will be responsible for creating world-class experiences for all clients, ranging from private to small and large corporate clients.

It is our vision that all attendees at hospitality events have a smooth and seamless experience that creates memorable experiences for all attendees. The Director of Hospitality and Sales will set and meet the annual budget goals, will oversee the hospitality team and will build strong relationships with all clients. They will also oversee the in-house chef, the small bistro and will collaborate across departments to ensure events are well integrated into the day-to-day operation of the museum.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and customer service skill and serve as the point person for the events clients and they will ensure the clients have a top-notch experience with their event, ensuring the facility, set-up, food and beverage are all meeting and exceeding expectations. The candidate will also be experienced in the administrative side of hospitality, understanding budgets and accounting, licensing and Utah liquor laws. The Director of Hospitality and Sales will also be an excellent problem solver, thinking quickly during events to ensure any issues are immediately solved.

This is a full-time, on-site position. Due to the nature of work, it will be required for the Director of Hospitality and Sales to be present at the museum during active events, and have a flexible schedule while events are not active, while making sure that all elements of upcoming events are 100% set for success. 

  • Pay Rate : $75K base salary plus commissions

  • Schedule : Regular business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) plus ability to work nights and weekends depending on scheduled events

    WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Host site visits for prospective clients

  • Negotiate and close events contracts

  • Ensure all event details and specific needs are captured

  • Proactively communicate with client leading up to the event

  • Create a run of show and BEO to be shared with the internal Leonardo team

  • Oversee and collaborate with the head chef and others on the hospitality team to budget and plan the event in detail, from set-up to take-down

  • For large events, be present on the day of the event until the event has wrapped up and serve as the main client contact during the event

  • Oversee schedule for event staffing (door watches, bar, servers, kitchen staff etc)

  • Interface with outside vendors

  • Building strong relationships to maintain future business

  • Acting as the client’s representative to ensure a delightful customer experience

  • Collecting and analyzing data concerning results of events hosted

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the complex needs of a wide variety of events

  • Planning event coordination details and aspects, including seating, dining and guests

  • Prepare detailed notes and checklists for coordination of events

  • Interface with DABS for all events including alcohol on a regular basis, ensuring compliance across all requirements, and being responsible for the annual DABS audit

  • Create orders for DABS for events as needed; and oversee inventory controls

  • Be responsible for inventory of all events items, including the liquor inventory

  • Be trained on all basic building functions

  • Work on quotes for special requests

  • Additional responsibilities as needed

     

    WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED:

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience

  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years professional experience as a LEADER in hospitality

  • Competencies : Strong understanding of the events process and industry trends; Demonstrated leadership skills; Ability to build and track budgets for the department, as well as for individual events; Ability to motivate and mentor the hospitality team to ensure they can thrive and grow; Ability to take direction and work collaboratively; Ability to work in fast-paced environment, adhere to deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility with shifting demands and priorities; Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at a time; Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); Be able to multitask and work under stress; Have a tasteful mindset for conducting business; Excellent presentation skills and pressence; Intricate and refined delicacy for managing customer relations

  • Systems : Proficiency in Tripleseat strongly preferred; Strong understand of AV and media preferred

  • Physical/Other Requirements : Able to lift/move/pull up to 25 pounds regularly, able to lift/move pull over 25 pounds occasionally
