SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Coordinator 3, Foundations/Math Learning Assistant in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Foundations/Math Learning Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Foundations of Math courses at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). This role involves close collaboration with faculty, the Foundations/Learning Assistant (LA) Program Manager, the Associate Dean, and other stakeholders to ensure that the Foundations courses meet the broad needs of students, supports their academic success, and aligns with institutional goals and standards. Additionally, the Coordinator will support the Math LA program to enhance student learning and provide support for both students and faculty. Position is in an office environment with frequent interaction with faculty, staff, and students. As needed and assigned by the Associate Dean, teach one section of Math 0920 per academic year, as an additional adjunct assignment which will be paid separately through faculty.

Full-time position with standard office hours; occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events or meetings.

Foundations of Math:

  • Collaborate with the Foundations Program Manager to organize orientation training for all faculty teaching Math 0920 and faculty interviewers.

  • Collaborate with the Foundations Program Manager to organize and implement Orientation including placement assessments, activities, interviews, and other responsibilities as they arise.

  • Collaborate with Math 0920 Course Leads to create and/or edit competency-based module exams and retake exams and relay files between Testing Services and faculty.

  • Collaborate with Math 0920 Course Leads to develop, revise, and maintain Foundations of Math curriculum, including course objectives, syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.

  • Coordinate with the bookstore to ensure that current instructional materials are available for students prior to the start of the semester.

  • Ensure that the curriculum aligns with state standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in developmental education.

  • Work closely with the Math 0920 course leads to provide support and guidance on curriculum-related matters.

  • Collaborate with Math 0920 Course Leads to provide training for new Math 0920 instructors.

  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty to improve instructional strategies and effectiveness in teaching developmental math.

  • Collaborate with Academic Advising, Testing Services, and STEM Success managers to develop strategies that support student retention and success in developmental math courses.

  • Collaborate with faculty and STEM Success Managers to monitor student progress and to provide additional resources and interventions for students who are struggling.

  • Attend Math 920 cohort lead meetings.

  • Learning Assistants (LA) Program:

    • Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of Math LA's.
    • Collaborate with faculty to develop, plan, coordinate, and assess the LA program.
    • Support faculty with LA interviews.
    • Match LA's to appropriate math courses in consultation with LA faculty leads and the Foundations/LA Program Manager.
    • Ensure effective communication between LAs and instructors.
    • Monitor the performance and effectiveness of LAs, providing feedback and additional training as needed.
    • Support LA faculty leads in running training sessions for LAs to enhance their teaching skills and knowledge.
    • Support LA faculty leads to develop and maintain resources for LAs, incl uding training materials and instructional guides.

       

    Assessment and Evaluation:

    • In collaboration with the Foundations Program Manager and the department Project Manager, design and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of he Foundations of Math and the LA program.
    • Analyze data related to student performance and course outcomes to inform continuous improvement efforts.
    • Prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders, including recommendations for curriculum and program enhancements.

       

    • Maintain accurate records of curriculum changes, assessments, and other relevant data.

    • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other institutional activities related to curriculum development and student success.
    • Stay current with trends, research, and best practices in developmental education and math instruction.
    • As needed, make updates to Canvas pages, online homework platforms, and Teams pages.

       

    • As needed and assigned by the Associate Dean, teach one section of Math 0920 per academic year, as an additional adjunct assignment which will be paid separately through faculty.

    • As needed and assigned by the Associate Dean, provide support with the Summer Bridge Program.

    Other duties as assigned.
