Job Overview

The Families That Flourish -- Reporting to the Program Director, the Food Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our lunch and snacks program.  Cooks in the preparation and service of menu/meal items and performs several kitchen activities including safe food handling, stocking, sweeping, mopping, pot washing, dish washing, and general cleaning duties and storing food and non-food supplies along with the ability to understand and comply with Safe food Handling Practices & procedures. The ideal candidate should be a hardworking, motivated individual with attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team setting. A professional and positive attitude and loving demeanor with children. This position requires on-site, face-to-face leadership. The center's hours require part-time (20 hours/week), flexible scheduling between 6 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Part time 4 hr shifts.

COMPENSATION

$14.00 - $15.00; Part-Time; Non-Exempt (20 hours/week)

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Clean and sanitize kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils.
  2. Sweep and mop floors, take out trash, and perform other general cleaning tasks as needed.
  3. Food preparation tasks, such as peeling, slicing, and dicing ingredients.
  4. Operate and maintain food service equipment, such as ovens and grills.
  5. Stock supplies and restock inventory as needed.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized storage and prep area.
  7. Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations.
  8. Provide excellent customer service to childcare staff.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the director.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent

Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Previous experience preferred at least 6-12 months.

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness and personal hygiene.

Safe Food handling experience and certification preferred.

Regular, predictable, and dependable attendance.

Basic math and reading skills.

Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift to 50 pounds.

Ability to work flexible hours.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Fingerprinting
  • DHS clearance
  • Negative T.B. skin test
  • Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition.
  • Effectively plan, organize and implement food activities.

Additional Information

Requires moderate physical effort. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing, lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Working conditions involve noise, heat, changes in temperature, kitchen elements, odors, moisture, etc. May be required to work additional hours as dictated by the workload and staffing.
