Summary: The primary role of a Behavior Interventionist (BI) is to support students who are struggling socially, emotionally and/or behaviorally to maximize learning and success. A BI delivers educational and support services, directly and indirectly, with the goal of meeting classroom expectations through positive and meaningful experiences within and outside of the classroom. The BI will implement a student\'s individualized behavior support plan within a variety of settings within the school and the community. The BI will implement behavior intervention plans and create behavior modifications through skill acquisition, positive reinforcements and the reduction of problematic behavior under the direct supervision of a licensed educator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Implements effective behavioral techniques and individual behavior plans under the guidance of a Special Educator, Behavior Specialist, BCBA and/or Student Support Director.

2. Administers individualized intensive behavior intervention to students across school settings or in the community.

3. Maintain ongoing data collection on student performance and provides information for record keeping and instructional planning.

4. Model appropriate behavior and help to create an environment of respect and rapport.

5. Monitors, observe and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures, reports progress regarding student performance and behavior.

6. Participates in student supervision during non-academic times.

7. Communicates academic and behavioral expectations and provides timely feedback to students.

8. Assist students in following their schedules, completing all activities specified each day.

9. Maintain emotional neutrality when students engage in challenging behavior, ask for assistance when needed, and treat all students with respect.

10. Prepare necessary materials (schedules, tokens, etc) at the start and end of every day.

11. Understand crisis intervention techniques, including verbal de-escalation and the use of physical intervention when necessary to maintain safety.

12. Maintains confidentiality about students and their families.

13. Provide input on the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP), 504, EST and behavior plans as appropriate.

14. Collaborate and support other members of the students team.

15. Participate in meetings including staff, in service, and IEP meetings as requested.

16. Participates in ongoing staff development activities and demonstrates continuous improvement in job performance.

17. Completes procedural responsibilities as outlined in district policies, procedures and guidelines.

18. May perform other tasks as assigned per the Master Agreement.

A successful Behavior Interventionist must have the ability to:

Communicate effectively with a variety of team members

Demonstrate willingness to learn through training

Demonstrate respect for all children and adults

Maintain a high level of professionalism, behave, dress and generally present themselves in a professional manner (consistent with the physical demands of the job)

Implement strong verbal de-escalation skills

Demonstrate competency in appropriately implementing physical intervention techniques and maintain competency over time

Implement behavior management strategies and techniques used with special needs population

Utilize and implement intensive behavior modification strategies and techniques

Implement child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism and behavioral challenges.
