About the Role

The Technical Project Lead (TPL) is responsible for leading the cross functional program or project engineering team to successfully develop and industrialize automotive electronic products achieving or exceeding project and Magna expectations. As required by the project, the TPL shall act as the key customer interface for all technical/engineering topics in alignment with the Program Manager

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the work of global team members working on software, hardware and mechanical product teams standardization and reuse through Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) through coordination and leadership of technical product team

  • Lead and maintain engineering change management, configuration management and engineering risk management activities

  • Identify reusable product units, opportunities for synergy, convince all stakeholders, quantify benefit

  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, software engineers, validation engineers and system/feature function engineers within Magna product development teams

  • Monitor and drive defect management to closure and lead the team in all disciplined root cause analysis efforts (both technical and systemic)

  • Support customer presentations & act as the primary product interface to customers on technical topics

  • Ensures engineering targets (quality, delivery timing, performance, product BOM Costs, etc.) for product deliverables are met on-time

  • Direct the efforts of the product team in the development and production release of engineering deliverables in compliance with product development process and customer expectations

  • Assess and plan ED activities and determines DV readiness

  • Prioritizes engineering activities, deliverables & actions in order to achieve engineering timing

  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts, researches, recommends and initiates implementation of enhancements to products, processes and programs

  • Provide support for RFI and RFQ meetings with customers, align responses and prepare and maintain communication responses.

  • Ability to travel when necessary to product development locations

Who we are looking for

  • Minimum of 10 years’ deep and relevant experience regarding the responsibility / activities (listed above) in serial development. Automotive electronic (mandatory)

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role. Leading a global team is a plus

  • Proven track record of successful launches of automotive products

  • Comprehensive knowledge of product development practices in automotive field

  • Deep and comprehensive knowledge in the development and execution of electronics controllers, modules, ECU’s or DAS Systems for automotive

  • Demonstrated decision making capability with a strong technical background

  • Able to use diverse and extensive experience to quickly learn, demonstrate technical aptitude and execute on complex technical assignments and products

  • Strong technical background. Understands needs of systems, optics (if required), electrical, mechanical and software engineers for successful product execution

  • Comprehensive working knowledge in structured engineering approaches

  • Deep and comprehensive working knowledge of structured problem solving (8D)

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of configuration management, project planning, monitoring and control techniques

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office package

  • Comprehensive knowledge of analysis and engineering tools (i.e. requirement, change and configuration management tools, document control and archiving tools, modelling and analysis tools, etc.)

  • Able to work effectively in a global environment as well as able to lead and motivate a diverse team

  • Able to represent technical topics internally and externally

  • Excellent communication skills to all internal and external interfaces

  • Positive attitude and self-motivated under diverse working conditions

  • Comprehensive knowledge of English (verbal and written) is required

Your preferred qualifications

  • Hands on approach when required

  • Working knowledge of data networks and related tools a plus

  • Travel (domestic and international) may be needed

  • Working knowledge of German is an asset
