ORGANIZATION AND AREA INFORMATION: Nestled in the central part of Southeastern Arizonas Gila Valley, the City of Safford is a thriving rural Arizona City. With a population of just over ten thousand, it is the largest municipality in Graham County. Incorporated as a town in 1901 and becoming a city in 1955, Safford has become the major hub for Southeastern Arizona. The City of Safford as an organization has multiple different departments and over 230 staff members including full time employees, seasonal employees, volunteer firefighters and councilmembers to staff all the different positions at the City. The City also provides all utilities for its residents and other residents in surrounding areas. In addition to the major utilities of gas, water, electric, sewer, and sanitation, the City has a landfill and airport that service the county.

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides instruction to students to successfully acquire their high school equivalency at the Safford library. The position requires the ability to instruct learners in reading, writing, science, social studies, and mathematical content.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISITICS: This is a part-time grant funded position working a maximum of 19 hours per week. The longevity of this position is dependent on grant funding. This position reports to the Library Director.

  • Instruct students, ages 16 and older in civics, math, language arts, science, writing and social studies
  • Plan and prepare class lessons and monitor student performance, while providing additional assistance as needed
  • Responsible for effective classroom management to enhance student learning
  • Develop lesson plans that use a variety of strategies, including lecture, individualized, student led learning, etc.
  • Provide tutoring services for students as needed
  • Evaluate students for testing readiness
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education or related degree (required)
  • One (2) years experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science in college and career readiness and/or a K-12 environment
  • OR an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

  • Knowledge of Arizona Adult Education Standards
  • Skill in working with students of different abilities and skill levels
  • Skill in verbal and written communication
  • Skill in operating a computer and Microsoft office software
  • Skill in roblem solving and decision making
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships
  • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum
