This position is located at Waters Edge in Roseville. The incumbent may have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position exists to provide soils and pavement design expertise within the Metro District which includes, and is not limited to:

  • Develops, directs, and monitors pavement and soil investigations.

  • Uses information gathered from investigations and research to develop Material Design Recommendations for pavement surface type and thickness, grading, subgrade preparation, slope stabilization, and other material related items and activities.This information is provided to various groups, both internal and external to the district, to prepare plans and recommendations for construction.

  • Manages multiple projects at one time.

  • Acts to assist the Metro District Materials Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer Senior:

  • Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Engineer 2 Graduate:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related from an ABET accredited college or university AND two years post-graduation civil engineering work.

OR

  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related from an accredited college/university or equivalent AND one year post-graduation civil engineering work.

AND

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

Required at both the Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate levels:

· Experience that demonstrates knowledge of roadway design and construction practices.

· Knowledge of pavement design procedures, cost estimating, and pavement management systems.

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License with none of the following: no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; or 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; or any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

If advanced to the finalist pool, in addition to the preceding minimum qualifications you will be assessed on additional criteria during a job interview:

  • Human Relations skills sufficient to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively present technical information to a wide variety of internal and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience writing reports summarizing data gathered from investigations or research.

· Experience using pavement design software, pavement management software, or computer-aided design software such as MicroStation.
