Become an Electricity Market and Resource Planning Senior Analyst working with SCE’s Resource & Environmental Planning and Strategy organization and help SCE forecast electricity prices and develop generation resource plans to reduce carbon emission and achieve the California clean energy initiatives. You will have opportunities to manage and improve forecasting and Integrated Resource Planning processes, and lead the cross-functional efforts of price forecast and resource planning-related analysis, initiatives, strategies, regulatory filings and advocacy, working closely with Energy Procurement and Management (EPM), Transmission and Distribution (T&D), Generation, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and Market Design and Integration of Regulatory Affairs (RA).

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Lead SCE’s price forecasting process and provide monthly price forecast to support SCE’s power procurement activities, risk and revenue assessments, rate design of SCE’s General Rate Case, generation operational planning and regulatory filings.

  • Develop resource plans with least costs for the CAISO system and SCE’s bundled customers to achieve the California carbon emission reduction goals and make sure the electricity system is operable and reliable to support SCE’s Integrated Resource Plan process.

  • Lead cross-function continuous improvement activities to improve forecasting and modeling methodologies using advanced statistic and machine learning methods.

  • Perform electricity market related analysis to support market design and integration, T&D development, and SCE’s strategical initiatives.

  • Represent SCE to participate in CPUC, CEC, and CAISO workshop/hearings, industry conferences, and industry coalition meetings.

The essentials

  • Three or more years developing and using forecasting models, data science, statistical analysis, or electricity system and markets experience.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Data Sciences, or related area of study.

  • Experience with statistical modeling or Data Science tools such as Python, SAS or R

  • Two or more years of experience in energy-related field or electricity system and market

  • Experience in energy or electric system analysis, forecasting, or in other applicable fields of analysis

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the basic structure and products of electricity markets, GHG policies and markets, and related regulatory requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, influence, and result-oriented skills

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
