UNC Health Care Clinical Director - Laboratory in Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Operations, UNC Health Nash, the Director of Laboratory Services is responsible for the administrative and technical operation of the department. He/she is expected to function with initiative and independent judgement within given general guidance and direction from the Vice President of Operations, UNC Health Nash. He/she shall participate in the development interpretation and application of departmental policies, budgets, and long range planning. The Director of Laboratory Services at UNC Health Nash shall be responsible for supervising and coordinating the planning and organizing, and directing and controlling the areas of the Laboratory Services. His/her primary function is that of fulfilling a management and technical supportive position to the Director of Pathology Services and the Vice President, UNC Health Nash.

Responsibilities:

Supports the administrative operations of the laboratory. -

  • Provides input into the evaluation of new products, services and equipment, -

  • Monitors compliance with designated CAP, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements, -

  • Oversees assigned quality control/assurance activities, -

  • Conforms to, and enforces, established Laboratory Safety and Infection Control Guidelines, -

  • Actively participates, with the Director of Pathology Services and the Vice President of Operations, in the development of staffing requirements, capital equipment purchases and the development of Purpose and Objectives for the service.

Directs laboratory personnel.

  • Ensures new employees are oriented and trained, -

  • Monitors staffing sufficiency, -

  • Investigates complaints, errors, and other operational or equipment problems, and takes corrective action, -

  • Develops employee performance capabilities, -

  • Addresses performance or behavioral problems, -

  • Provides transfers or promotions, -

  • Solicits recommendations from the Director of Pathology Services for the hiring and discharging of laboratory personnel.

Maintains laboratory equipment.

Communicates technical or general information which may include problems or matters of scientific, technical and/or administrative nature.

Ensures that records, reports, forms, logs, patient charges and other documentation are properly prepared, processed and maintained.

Keeps work areas stocked and organized.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patient served.

Performs other duties as needed.

Other information:

  • Bachelors in Medical Technology or related clinical medicine science

  • Masters in clinical laboratory science, MBA, or MPH preferred

  • Specialty registry preferred certification

  • 3 years of Healthcare/Medical - Manager Level or Supervisor Level in a Laboratory
