The Opportunity

As the Criminal Justice Equity Associate within MERLA ( Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning and Adapting) division of the Equity Capability, you will help to operationalize and execute an equity led roadmap that supports client needs and staff on projects and new opportunities. You will implement culturally responsive and equitable approaches to monitoring, evaluation, research, learning and adapting and will lead your work in a manner that models and reinforces equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility and that elevates Abt’s vision, mission, values, culture, and strategic priorities. Using an equity lens, you will help the team provide support to projects and proposals funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, states, and community organizations. You will bring significant knowledge of criminal justice issues in today’s world and implement strategies through technical assistance and research projects to improve criminal justice outcomes and the quality of data/evaluations. An ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: law enforcement, reentry, human trafficking, jails and/or prisons, forensic science, and/or firearm violence. Experience with mixed methods data, and knowledge of SAS, SPSS, Stata, R or another statistical program is strongly preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Director, or Task Lead for criminal justice projects; manages or leads projects or tasks, including associated teams, staff, deliverables, and budgets.

  • Conduct research and data analysis to support the Department of Justice and answer pressing criminal justice research questions.

  • Contribute ideas, strategic planning, and information to support and grow criminal justice projects.

  • Play a significant role in business development; lead the technical writing for proposals focused on criminal justice objectives.

  • Translate client needs and/or objectives into specific deliverables in a timely and cost-efficient manner; review deliverables to meet client standards.

  • Inform teams on the most appropriate practices and techniques for a particular project or objective.

  • Support a diverse team working on US DOJ evaluation projects and proposals. Ensure collaborative nature in working with other contracting teams on projects.

  • Disseminate project findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports and presentation at seminars or conferences.

  • Clearly communicate with clients, junior and senior staff, and other partners orally and in writing and represent Abt in a professional manner.

What We Value

  • Bachelors + 9 years, Masters + 7 years or PhD + 4 years of relevant experience

  • Proven skills in engaging in liberated gatekeeping and power sharing with individuals with lived experiences and lived expertise.

  • Strong track record for collaboration and demonstrated ability to work across diverse clients and teams.

  • Knowledge of and experience working on criminal justice equity Issues

  • Demonstrates experience and success in all aspects of project management.

  • Experience as a subcontractor managing financial and contractual relationships with a prime contractor.

  • Experience with programs that include direct work in communities and with CBOs.

  • Experience (i.e., conducting research/data/evaluations, direct services/field work, policy, government, technical assistance) in one or more areas of criminal justice.

  • Significant experience conducting research and data analysis projects, particularly with the U.S. Department of Justice and/or state agencies.

  • Experience leading and authoring reports and presenting report findings at conferences.

  • Strong quantitative and/or qualitative data skills, program evaluations, or research experience.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $90,000 to $130,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
