Job Summary:

The Urban League seeks to build an equitable Rochester by creating support and services for populations that have been historically marginalized. The Equity and Advocacy Coordinator (Coordinator) will play a critical role in supporting the division’s anti-racism initiatives. The Coordinator must share the Urban League equity and advocacy vision and create awareness and enthusiasm about anti-racist practices and principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Job Responsibilities:

This position requires a collaborative, innovative, organized, and effective team player with outstanding people and coordination skills. The Coordinator will be responsible for the administrative operations of the Equity and Advocacy Division (E&A) and assist with the implementation of the division’s efforts to dismantle structural racism and build equity throughout Rochester, including the RASE recommendations, Interrupt Racism cohorts, annual Interrupters’ Summit, and health equity agenda. The Coordinator demonstrates the skills to support a strategy that will help the Greater Rochester community become more diverse, antiracist, equitable, and inclusive.

The Coordinator is innovative, creative, organized and will:

• Work closely with leaders and CARTs internally and externally to implement RASE recommendations and ULR’s equity and advocacy vision for an equitable Rochester

•Assist with planning and implementing Interrupt Racism training, conferences, and advocacy efforts

• Lead the Internal Change Team and work closely with ULR team members to achieve ULR’s mission.

• Provide coordination and guidance to Interrupt Racism Cohorts and agencies’ Change Teams’ activities

• Coordinate and participate in outreach activities to include tabling, canvassing, and community events

• Help promote and represent ULR initiatives and E&A programs throughout the community

• Assist with ensuring E&A initiatives meet their measurable goals

• Provide administrative support to E&A division including maintaining calendars, ensuring necessary resources are available, managing correspondence, and serving as liaison for E&A with internal and external partners

• Develop consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to identify, discuss, and address equity issues affecting our partners, participants, and staff

• Coordinate consciousness-raising efforts, including affinity groups, weekly Interrupt Racism newsletter, and regular workshops/presentations/ celebrations, etc.

• Coordinate and support strategic engagement and provide monthly written reports to the Senior Vice President (SVP) on department updates.

Requirements

This work requires superb written and verbal communication skills and strong diplomacy skills. The Coordinator is a strong listener and can build a robust partnership network.

More specifically, s/he/they need to:

• Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Mailchimp, Canva, and other online resources and social media platforms

• Highly organized with an attention to detail and timeliness in completing tasks

• Knowledgeable of research and best practices in antiracism, equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion

• Familiar with the grant process and can provide creative and innovative ideas

• Confidence in public speaking and presentation skills associated with equity

• Ability to engage with diverse staff, engender trust, collaboration, and partnership

• Strong interpersonal skills; able to quickly establish credibility to develop and manage productive relationships with internal and external individuals and agencies

• Content knowledge of the antiracism, diversity, equity, justice, and inclusiveness research base and best practices for organizations striving to become more antiracist, diverse, equitable, and inclusive

•Ability to manage the needs of multiple leaders and projects, and move quickly from one to another

• Ability to remain solution-focused and productive when working with various groups

• Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork

• Ability to provide support and training to other staff

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires an equivalent combination of education and experience in antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion content. College degree preferred.

• Knowledgeable of resources available within the Rochester community.

• Ability to advocate/address issues of diversity and work to ensure inclusivity

• Sensitivity and understanding of specific barriers, which may lead to a lack of access and engagement

• Some experience supporting the implementation of programs, trainings, and initiatives

• Must adhere to ULR’s non-discrimination policies

• Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, partners, and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural experiences, lifestyles, and sexual orientations and to treat each individual with respect and dignity

• Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed

• Bilingual is a plus

Salary Description

$23 to $25 per hour
