Function of Position:

The Director reports to the Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education in the Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services (EDIWS) Division. The Director provides expert oversight and management for manufacturing and skill-based education and customized training programs offered within Skilled Trades & Construction, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technologies and related Apprenticeships within the Economic and Workforce Development Center. The Director supervises and directs workflow of (4) Managers, (2) part-time Managers, (1) Technical Assistant, skilled trades part-time instructors, advanced manufacturing part-time instructors, and Industry 4.0 part-time instructors.

*This is a temporary position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of college budget and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Oversee the programming and all related learning and community outreach activities in and for the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center).

  • Conduct needs assessments for Economic & Workforce Development Center clients and determine appropriate training and academic programs solutions to meet customer needs.

  • Develop instructional program solutions or engage appropriate instructional resources with subject matter expertise to design and deliver programs meeting customer needs in industrial technologies/skilled trades.

  • Oversee new technology adoptions within the Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) realm and beta testing project to support Precision Machining Technologies.

  • Coordinate with Monroe Community College faculty, department chairs, EDIWS Workforce Development staff, and representatives from other technical disciplines to research and promote new course programming.

  • Oversee curriculum assessments progression for Mechatronics, and Engineering Technologies programs under the SEMI standard.

  • Support program faculty with resources to ensure quality training programs are delivered.

  • Develop proposals and budget planning for contract training and other industry-based programs within assigned oversight.

  • Determine and plan on-site recruitment, registration, advising activities and orientations for assigned credit and non-credit programs in partnership with enrollment management area.

  • Address inquiries related to FWD Center programs offered and respond to initial Customer Resource Management (Salesforce) generated leads.

  • Communicate with appropriate organizations, associations and government agencies (i.e. NYS DOL, NYSED Designated Education Local Agency (DLEA), Rochester Technology & Machining Association (RTMA), Finger Lakes Advanced Manufacturers' Enterprise (FAME) and apprentice sponsors).

  • Coordinate with the marketing team(s) on the design of promotional literature for credit and non-credit program offerings within portfolio of oversight.

  • Participate in the Economic & Workforce Development Center budgetary process, including responsibility to and reporting on industrial technology/skilled trades program revenue and expenses.

  • Assist with divisional grant development and execution, and coordinate award management with other departments as necessary.

  • Research and align innovative learning solutions program development to meet future industry workplace demands.

  • Coordinate with EDIWS Workforce Development Center and other divisional staff members to implement initiatives to meet divisional goals per the strategic plan.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution, or five to eight years of industry experience, or military experience.

  • Demonstrated industry/workplace experience in a manufacturing-based field with appropriate subject matter expertise in skilled production, electrical, mechanical or related manufacturing technologies.

  • Subject matter expertise in developing, coordinating, and implementing academic and training programs.

  • Experience fostering academic success among underserved, diverse student populations and clients of the College.

  • Professional customer service expertise.

  • Proven project or program management success.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree or higher from an accredited higher education institution.

  • Three years of experience in a management role with outreach responsibilities and/or training and development.

  • Experience mentoring/coaching.

  • Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades experience highly desirable.

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

    Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $78,000 to $84,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
