Where the team fits in

The Enterprise Tech (ETech) team is responsible for providing the technology and data platforms underpinning REA's products, services, and operations. The team consists of around 160 people, which are distributed across the SPACE, Enterprise Technology and Data Services teams.

ETech is responsible for making all REA employees happy and productive by empowering them with technology. We also play an integral role providing strategic, commercial input and guidance around decisions across all levels of the business, while continually improving the ‘behind the scenes’ of REA to support our people, as well as providing support to all other functional areas of the business around the globe.

What The Role Is All About

As a Lead Systems Engineer you will be responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining our Enterprise Systems. You’ll become an integral part of an agile team, providing your expertise of systems engineering & design, operational work practices, fault finding and incident management. You will be expected to implement sustainable solutions in a collaborative and creative work environment to support our many lines of business. You will use your skills and experience to mentor other systems engineers. You will be responsible for:

  • Driving engineering excellence in the implementation of infrastructure, operations, networking, operating systems, computing, and storage initiatives

  • Play a lead role, guiding and mentoring our Engineers through the development of their capabilities and growing their careers

  • People management to several Systems Engineers, including regular performance feedback/EoY reviews with a passion to see your team grow and develop

  • Engage with the wider System Engineering/Architecture community on behalf of ETech, identifying opportunities for tooling/pattern reuse

  • Contribute to our future of Tech strategy with the Enterprise Architect and the ETech Leadership team and assist in determining future skill and capability requirements to support our strategy

  • Provide technical direction for the tribe and guide team decisions

  • Identify improvement opportunities within the Engineering team and the wider ETech tribe – this may include (but not limited to) reduction of the cost of ownership of our systems, identification of system duplication and overall process improvement

  • In conjunction with other senior team members, architecting well-structured and documented vendor and system integrations between our systems

  • Work with the ETech Leadership team to continuously improve ways of working and contribute to team and tribe culture

  • Take regular scheduled shifts on-call to support key services outside business hours

  • Contributing to the REA knowledge base through blog posts, brown-bags sessions and coaching less experienced members of the team

What We Are Looking For

  • A love for sharing knowledge and helping others

  • Experience leading teams of system engineers with direct people management accountability

  • The ability to solve complex problems, tinker with technology and possess a continuous improvement mindset

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders

  • Ability to lead with influence and engage a diverse set of team members to reach a common solution

  • Networking and infrastructure experience on distributed routing, switching, firewall and wireless systems (Palo Alto, Arista, NetApp & VMware)

  • Monitor, maintain and uplift a variety of systems using best practice (security, testing and automation)

  • Experience in securely deploying systems (Windows/Linux) to AWS infrastructure from CI/CD pipelines

  • Strong experience with administrating and integrating a variety of SaaS based systems such as: Microsoft 365, Okta, Zoom, PagerDuty, Workday and Slack in a corporate environment

  • Experience with configuration management, infrastructure automation and tooling

  • Security knowledge and mindset

  • Ability to lead projects and people whilst being able to work autonomously when required

  • Ability to work productively in a fast paced and agile environment - #gsd (urban dictionary will help on this one!)
