Amentum Radiological Control Technicians in Richland, Washington

This position is responsible for the monitoring of radiological conditions for occupational radiation protection. Provides radiological control functions including contamination and radiation control, conducts and documents radiological surveys, establishes area radiological postings, and conducts area radiological monitoring for control purposes and radiological characterization. Enters radiologically and/or chemically controlled areas in appropriate personnel protective equipment for assigned duties.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees

  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations

  • Perform work in compliance with radiological procedures

  • Being continuously aware of radiological, environmental, safety, and any potentially hazardous conditions and notifying supervision and affected organizations when changes occur

  • Effectively manage time and complete all delegated work within the specified time

  • Use motor vehicles as required (e.g., truck, van, golf cart)

  • Operate material handling equipment (e.g., vehicles, dollies, elevators)

  • Operate equipment in accordance with procedures from control panels, manually operated levers, switches, buttons, joysticks, computer displays, touch panels, etc.

  • Participate in area specific RCT qualification and requalification programs

  • Mentor plant personnel on radiological work practices

  • Provide training to peers and other plant personnel as requested

  • Assist in the preparation of radiological control documents (e.g., Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), ALARA Management Worksheets (AMWs))

  • Assist in radiological training as requested

  • Use radiological software

  • Provide radiological support for assessments and surveillances

  • Monitor radiological work

  • Maintain radiological key control

  • Provide radiological briefings

  • Provide radiological job coverage

  • Establish, maintain and remove radiological postings, boundaries and step-off pads as necessary

  • Perform contamination surveys

  • Perform radiation surveys

  • Perform radiological release and clearance surveys

  • Perform radiological shipping surveys

  • Perform radiological routines and surveillances

  • Perform radiological air sampling/monitoring to include operation of sample head isolation valves

  • Interpret and verify field data accumulated from rad surveys and monitoring

  • Perform wound surveys

  • Perform minor decontamination of radiological control instruments, equipment, personnel, personal items and small spills of radioactive material

  • Direct and monitor personnel decontamination

  • Perform general area contamination verification (large area wipes)

  • Respond to radiological alarms and events

  • Provide radiological support for radiological casualties

  • Prepare radiological survey records and other applicable documentation

  • Handle, use and transport radiological sources, samples and other radioactive material

  • Package and label radioactive material

  • Establish low dose waiting areas

  • Install, use and remove localized radiological engineered controls (e.g., temporary shielding, catches, glovebags)

  • Perform inspections of radiological engineered controls (e.g., glovebags, containments, HEPA vacuums)

  • Wear radiological personal protective equipment (PPE), to include respiratory protection

  • Enter radiologically and/or chemically controlled areas in appropriate PPE for assigned duties

  • Set and change alarm setpoints on radiological control instrumentation

  • Operate radiological control counting instrumentation

  • Operate installed radiological instrumentation (i.e., CAM, ARM, PCM, frisker)

  • Perform functional checks on hand-held radiological instrumentation

  • Perform functional checks on installed radiological instrumentation (i.e., CAM, ARM, PCM, frisker)

  • Perform functional checks on radiological control counting instrumentation

  • Perform functional checks on radiological air sampling equipment

  • Perform calibration checks on radiological control counting instrumentation

  • Perform minor maintenance on radiological control instrumentation as defined by procedure

  • Replace cables and batteries on hand-held radiological instrumentation

  • Acknowledge alarms on radiological instrumentation (i.e., CAM, ARM, PCM, frisker)

  • Fill radiological counting equipment with liquid nitrogen (LN2) as necessary

  • Establish and maintain status boards for radiological conditions

  • Support personnel with the donning and doffing of radiological PPE to include monitoring equipment

  • Transport/relocate radiological equipment as necessary

  • Communicate facility and equipment status to the supervisor

  • Participate in event investigations and supply information as requested

  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team as directed

  • Participate in ALARA planning and committees as directed

  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned to maintain safe and orderly workspace

  • Monitor, direct and support activities of personnel working in plant areas

  • Make notifications and log entries as required by administrative and technical procedures

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment

Experience Requirements:

  • Pass DOE RCT Fundamentals Exam within last 2 years or provide proof of equivalent:

  • Registered Radiation Protection Technologist with NRRPT

  • AS or higher in Radiation Protection

  • Department of Defense Radiological Control Qualification

  • US Navy Engineering Laboratory Technician

  • Current National Academy for Nuclear Training e-Learning (NANTeL) RP Fundamentals Examination

Licenses/Qualifications Requirements:

  • Successfully completed the required classroom training and qualifications of an RCT

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

RCT

Performs radiation, radiological contamination and radioactive air surveys/sampling/measurements. Establishes barriers and hangs signs for radiological postings. Performs routine (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly) inspections and surveillances. Performs duties in radiologically and/or chemically controlled areas. Supports operations and maintenance activities.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $41.52 - $51.90 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
