Amentum Radiological Control Intern in Richland, Washington

The Radiological Control organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Near term support is provided by the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC). The WTP is one of the world’s largest environmental remediation projects located on the Department of Energy Hanford Site, outside of Richland, WA. The mission includes safely storing, treating, and immobilizing the highly hazardous radiological wastes created during prior periods of nuclear processing at the Hanford Reservation. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control and supervision of WTCC.

Radiological Control hires Summer Interns to support technical processes and field operations. Work assignments will vary depending upon project needs and current operations. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

Work assignments will vary depending upon current project activities. Some examples of typical work activities for Summer Interns are provided below.

  • Assisting technical staff with hazard analysis and radiological work planning

  • Development of data tracking and trending tools for radiological field data

  • Development of tools to track performance metrics across radiological topics including training, monitoring, programs, etc.

  • Development and maintenance of electronic forms to streamline Radiological Control processes and procedures

  • Development of technical documentation to support radiological work processes

  • Development of documentation, setup and troubleshooting of radiological instrumentation

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education :

  • Junior or Senior year towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radiation Protection, Nuclear Engineering, related Engineering Discipline or Science

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual- Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $21.75 - $30.56 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
