Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides basic care to Shelter children, to include feeding, bathing, changing diapers and other clothing, etc.
Provides assistance with schoolwork as required.
Creates and maintains a family atmosphere in the Shelter at all times.
Provides routine and emergency transportation to children.
Issues clothing and toilet articles to incoming children as required. Washes, folds and sorts children's clothing, ensuring an ample supply of clean items.
Washes, folds and sorts Shelter linen.
Prepare, cook and serve meals to children as required.
Possesses mental and physical capabilities to work with children.
Makes decisions in emergency situations and summon emergency help as needed.
Is required to pass training courses, including CPR and First Aid.
Oversees and participates in Shelter cleaning and maintenance.
Interacts with children ages 0-18 years in a variety of ways to include disciplining, listening, behavior management, behavior modeling, providing educational, recreational and developmental activities and informal counseling.
Must qualify as a Direct Care Staff Member (DCSM) through Washoe County Human Services Foster Care Licensing.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Graduate or equivalent. Must be able to pass certification by the Washoe County Health Department. Must be able to communicate with children. Must be able to read, write and speak English. At least 2 years of college or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with children.
Staff must gain their clearance as a Direct Care Staff Member (DCSM). This includes TB test, drug test (including Marijuana), background investigation, reference check, required training and required immunizations. All staff members must be willing and able to complete restraint certification.
