Staff Software Engineers are members of our product teams, responsible for creating, enhancing, and supporting common features. Working side-by-side with Product Owners, Software Test Engineers, and Business Stakeholders, they are actively involved in the complete software development life cycle in an agile environment including technical design, hands-on coding, unit testing, integration testing, performance tuning, maintenance, test automation, deploys and upgrades.

Our team is Benefits Operations Scale. The Ops Scale team has two parts. One part of the team is committed to scaling our solutions. This involves updating our solutions to run faster and service larger clients. We’re pushing into the cloud to support our continued growth. This is where you’ll be contributing as our Staff Engineer. The other part of the team is tier 3 production support. This part handles support tickets that require a software developer to address.

Who you are:

Engineering is the function that applies principles and techniques of engineering, mathematics, and computer/data science to the design, development, and testing of applications. The Product & Technology engineering family consists of software development, testing, database, devops, virtualization & network.

During the first six months, you will:

  • Play a key role in mediating team level technical disagreements driving toward a unified decision forward

  • Establish and gain team alignment for best practices and a healthy balance of tech debt versus delivery

  • Actively mentor or coaches all team members

  • Design software with multiple components interacting across systems

  • Provide feedback on team designs by asking probing, insightful questions that solidify choices

  • Solicit and provide feedback via decision-making frameworks for proposed changes from across the organization

  • Push the team to continuously improve their knowledge, technical skill, and velocity

  • Own the overall health and engineering quality for a team by ensuring appropriate testing, monitoring, observability, and accountability is in place

  • Be a strong leader for a team

Required Experience:

  • Fluency in C# .NET and SQL

  • Proficiency in developing scalable architecture solutions

  • 5+ years' software engineering experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a similar technical field

  • Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn

  • Must have a strong sense of curiosity

  • Must commit to their role and take responsibility for their tasks

  • Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment

  • Must be effective and creative in problem solving

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with AWS or Azure technologies and deployment pipelines

  • Experience with React-based frontend development

  • A history of working on large-scale SaaS architecture

  • A proven track record of successfully breaking down monolithic architecture with incremental upgrades

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $155,155 - $201,701/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
