Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, the Safety Manager oversees the Health and Safety activities in their designated location ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws / regulations and company policies / procedures. The Safety Manager will provide expertise and recommend strategic direction in the Safety, Health, and Environmental areas in an effort to prevent and mitigate employee injuries and illnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversee/direct the activities of Site Safety Advisors.

  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, implementation and improvement of the Health, Safety and Environment management system.

  • Identify development requirements and provide necessary training, leadership, organization, and control to meet company goals.

  • Assess specific HSE risks and define the HSE plans, standards, procedures, metrics, and accountability systems required as per company policies, client requirements and legislation.

  • Track compliance to ensure optimum minimization of risk.

  • Perform audits and inspections to give positive feedback and identify hazards at the workplace.

  • Help to eliminate, prevent, reduce, or control hazards.

  • Conduct site specific investigations as required.

  • Compile management reports and assist with recordkeeping requirements.

  • Develop and lead Management’s awareness in developing and maintaining HSE as an integral part of project management responsibilities and objectives.

  • Provide planning, coordination, communication and active and visible support and delivery assurance for the HSE systems including status, results, follow-up, and actions.

  • Monitor and analyze HSE leading/lagging indicators, results, trends, and performance indicators; ensuring remedial work plans address negative trends.

  • Oversee the project team in the preparation of hazard assessments.

  • Hold regular safety conversations and provide positive feedback and/or coaching.

  • Encourage and support health and safety committee initiatives.

  • Support the development and training of all site safety personnel.

Qualifications

  • Advance knowledge and understanding of current construction and general industry safety regulations and the ability to analyze and interpret this data for the safety of employees, job sites, and branch(es).

  • Understand and have extensive knowledge of Federal & Provincial rules and regulations pertaining to safety codes and Occupational Health and Safety rules.

  • Advanced knowledge of assessing training needs, creating training materials and delivering the training.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate and improve others.

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

  • Strong sense of professionalism.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, utilize judgment, and work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Advanced computer skills with the ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office.

  • Valid driver’s license

  • CRSP, CRST or CHSC designation (or working towards) is required.

  • NCSO designation is not required but is considered an asset.

  • Minimum of 5 years of Safety experience required. Experience in a construction, industrial, or commercial industry required. Experience with scaffolding is preferred.

  • Ability to travel 25% - 50% of the time. Travel may vary depending on geographical location of branches and jobsite locations.

  • We require communication in English due to our multiple offices located outside Quebec .
