Job Information

Microsoft Corporation Technical Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

We are the Client Core Team. What do we do?

We are the base platform layer, the core of the windows kernel, with a focus towards Windows client products. Partner teams build their technologies on top of our team's code base and rely on the integrity of our code base.

We're responsible for the lowest layers of the operating system:

where the processors and most core system hardware components interface with Windows

where the heart of power management occurs

where the code lives to turn the whole system on in the first place

We’re looking for Technical Program Manager to join our team in the Boot, UEFI, and Platform space. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on features that advance the Windows platform to be more performant, scale better across the wide spectrum of Windows hardware and even consider new hardware scenarios. Our team has a number of dependent teams, internal and external, which allows you to work with a diverse set of individuals across Windows, Microsoft and the industry.

We work directly with Silicon partners and OEMs to ensure that Windows can start and run the latest processors and chipsets coming down the pipe. Members of our team work on the core firmware that ships in first party products. Others work on the most critical of system components such as PCI, boot, and the hardware abstraction layer (HAL). We also work with the industry on what new hardware or features are in the works on future silicon, and how we might best leverage those in future iterations of Windows.

What our team offers:

Teammates who are some of the best engineers in the world. Opportunities to take on interesting technical challenges that directly impact the millions of customers that use Windows. Incredible mentorship. We are looking to groom and grow the next set of leaders on our team. Teammates that come from an array of diverse backgrounds and experiences who really love what they’re working on. You can look forward to friendly faces that are ready to help you get you up to speed.

Our team might be a good fit if:

  • You have a genuine passion and interest in the technical challenges our team tackles.

  • You are looking to commit to 3+ years at your next job.

  • You have a growth mindset (really, we mean it!) and are eager and ready to learn.

  • You care deeply about doing the right thing for your customers.

  • You are a team player that approaches communication and collaboration with empathy and compassion.

  • You have experience with hardware and/or C programming.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

As a member of our team, a typical day might include:

Collaborating with external and internal partner teams to drive clarity and ensure execution on parallel work streams and coordinating communication across partner teams.

Partnering with developers on our team to remove roadblocks and enabling them to complete their work efficiently. This could include being POC for your feature area and serving as the first gate for all partner team requests and inquiries.

Driving features from inception (based on customer and industry partner feedback) -> planning -> feature completion -> industry adoption.
