Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

It is a mobile first, cloud first world and we’re empowering it.  Microsoft Azure is at the heart of the Microsoft Cloud providing the backend infrastructure for hyper-scale distributed and dynamic computing.  Our team within Azure provides the software platform which enables internal Microsoft services (including Office 365, Bing.com, XBOX Live, Skype, and OneDrive) as well as many external customers to run their large-scale mission-critical Cloud applications for their businesses.

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, Azure Core in the Microsoft Datacenter Platform organization, you will lead a team and contribute to evolving a platform and some micro-services which are used to expand Azure clouds and automate the diagnostics and recovery functions to quickly meet increasing and often changing capacity demands by our customers in a consistent, efficient, safe, and secure way. Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

  • Guides team and acts as an expertise for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and mentors / monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

  • Delivers success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of engineering experience with distributed systems, with proven problem-solving and design skills and a growth mindset.

  • 3+ years of software development industry experience with proven record of end-to-end delivery of production components.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Problem-solving and leadership skills, drive for results, and ability to work independently.

  • Prior experience with one of the following: operating systems, networking, BMC, client/server and multi-tier architecture, asynchronous and multi-threaded programming.

  • Demonstrated abilities to learn quickly, design efficiently, and write solid code.

  • 2+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
