SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Operator is responsible for operating the wire wind machines and running the necessary wire required by braid machines.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE:

· Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader

Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct spot check of wire in the market and at the machines.

  2. Order necessary wire by communicating with material handler using the Raw Material Requisition.

  3. Gauge wire randomly utilizing a thickness gauge.

  4. Understand how to correctly set meter footage, traverse, and check beak size.

  5. Use a hoist in a correct and safe manner to move spools of wire.

  6. Monitor and run wire winding machines.

  7. Identify and eliminate known defects.

  8. Prepare and complete necessary paperwork.

    DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  9. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

  10. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

  11. Maintain production schedules.

  12. Work with groups in initiating and implementation of programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

  13. Other duties may be assigned later.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  14. Required PPE:

    1.1. Safety glasses

    1.2. Hearing protection

    1.3. ANSI Z41 Safety Shoes

    1.4. Kevlar gloves

  15. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, carrying, stooping, bending, reaching & lifting are done on a frequent basis. Climbing, lifting overhead, pushing, pulling & grasping are performed on an occasional basis.

  16. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.

  17. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.

    The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

    Experience:

    Production work preferred but not required

    Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  18. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  19. Basic knowledge and use of hand tools

  20. Sound decision making skills

  21. Good math, reading, writing skills

  22. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  23. Mental and visual acuity for production of quality product

  24. Strong trouble shooting skills

    Skills/Competencies:

  25. Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office package

  26. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

    Other Skills:

    Ability to work well in a team environment

    Assessment:

    Employee must pass Pre-employment screening
