UNC Health Care Andrologist Senior (Per Diem) in Raleigh, North Carolina

Summary :

UNC Health Fertility Lab is hiring a per diem Senior Andrologist to join their team! The Senior Andrologist (per diem) is the lead andrologist in the UNC Fertility Lab. The position performs daily procedures in the andrology lab and is responsible for ensuring supplies are maintained, quality assurance is adhered to, and all staff are trained. The Senior Andrologist is also responsible for the overall maintenance of lab equipment and serves as the subject matter expert for others in the unit on andrology issues.

Responsibilities :

  • Performs daily andrology and endocrine procedures serving as subject matter expert on andrology procedures. Examines and processes specimens for routine semen analysis, performing counts for concentration and motility. Performs histological techniques for identifying leucocytes, immature germ cells, and morphology. Processes semen for ART procedures and intrauterine insemination (IUIs). Recovers motile sperm specimens using selective methods. Performs semen cytopreservation, testing or immunological infertility, and sperm function tests. Refers specimens to outside laboratories for semen culture when required.

  • Ensures proper sample collection, delivery, and identification. Performs safe handling of specimens by following safety guidelines. Performs daily/monthly quality control procedures for media and equipment used in the andrology laboratory. Documents quality assurance activities including assessment of problems and appropriate corrective actions. Performs andrology proficiency testing.

  • Assists with sperm shipping, sperm discards, and IVF lists as necessary. Goes through IVF lists to ensure all patients have sperm on site, frozen BU’s are completed, and determines whether test thaws are acceptable or not.

  • Sets up, calibrates, and cleans lab equipment. Ensures routine maintenance and repairs are performed and documented. Responsible for troubleshooting issues with Rouche equipment that may arise.

  • Processes requisitions, test reports, and test records in a timely manner. Maintains lab records, reports, and files. Performs various office functions. Orders and stocks lab supplies on an ongoing basis.

  • Communicates with Practice personnel, medical staff, patients, and outside resources to ensure high quality patient care and customer service orientation. Prepares periodic reports and documents for supervisors.

  • Serves as the resources on the andrology team for questions related to clinical expertise, strange cases, test thaws, etc. Serves as the lead within the team, deleting tasks and assigning resources.

  • Oversees the ordering of supplies for andrology and endrocrine, delegating tasks to the Andrologist I to ensure lab is consistently stocked with necessary supplies.

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as biology, chemistry or other biological of physical science.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● None required.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Requires two years of experience in a hospital, physician’s office, or scientific lab with some general knowledge of lab techniques to include at least one year of previous andrology experience.
