Radford University Peer Recovery Coordinator in Radford, Virginia

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the coordination of the Collegiate Recovery Community ( CRC ) and supervises staff connected to the CRC . The CRC is a grant-funded program designed to provide support and assistance to Radford University students living in recovery and/or with a desire to move into recovery. This position will utilize nationally identified best practices to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of substance use/misuse and recovery-related events, education, support, and awareness campaigns. This position will work with the campus community as well as community partners to bring support, awareness, and education around substance use disorders (SUDs) and recovery. In addition, the position will also supervise all Recovery Support Specialists as well as a Recovery-Themed Community.

Job responsibilities will include direct planning, supervision, and implementation of a comprehensive yearly programming for the CRC . The main responsibilities of this role are:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive prevention and educational programming for students as well as the larger campus community;

  • Work directly with Student Counseling Services ( SCS ) and Substance Abuse and Violence Education Support Services ( SAVES ) to enhance their services related to substance misuse, addiction, and recovery;

  • Foster collaborative working relationships with campus partners (i.e., Student Health Services, Student Recreation & Wellness Center, Student Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life);

  • Establish and foster collaborative working relationships with non-campus partners (i.e, grant partners, community-based services for recovery);

  • Develop and implement program evaluation protocol;

  • Collect and analyze data related to program evaluation;

  • Provide oversight to the themed living community on campus; and

  • Work toward growing the peer workforce by hosting annual Certified Peer Recovery Specialists ( CPRS ) for both on and off-campus community members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of substance use/misuse disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns (i.e., trauma)

  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist in Virginia

  • At least a year of working a certified peer recovery specialist

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professional staff and faculty.

  • Demonstrated experience in educational program development and implementation.

  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills in order to effectively deliver programs and health promotion materials to diverse audiences.

  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging issues in college health and mental wellbeing.

  • Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in written and verbal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other such technology.

  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as programs require.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervision programming and/or other professional staff

  • Working Experience as a certified peer recovery specialist.

  • Experience working with college students in a diverse setting.

  • Work experience with a focus on programs/initiatives to reduce high-risk behaviors.

  • Demonstration of professional writing skills.

  • Experience with program evaluation and data collection
