Bowery Residents Committee Substance Abuse Counselor - 170-01 Douglas Avenue in Queens, New York

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage client caseload and work with each client to develop specific substance abuse treatment goals and directly provide SUD treatment and case management services focused on early engagement and Motivational Interviewing. Perform intakes, screenings and referrals, substance abuse counseling, maintenance of timely and accurate clinical documentation, escort of clients for advocacy when needed. Additional responsibilities include providing crisis intervention as needed and training in Opioid Overdose Prevention and use of Narcan for both staff and clients. Responsible for providing referrals for further SUD treatment. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences. Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned

HOURS:

Full-time 37.5 hours per week

  • Thursday-Saturday 8am-9:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

MSW or CASAC-T License required. LMHC or LMSW preferred. Have experience in providing direct services related to the treatment and recovery of persons with a serious substance use disorder. Additional experience serving individuals experiencing homelessness and persons with mental illness is preferred. Bilingual abilities a plus. Knowledge of alcoholism treatment and familiarity with 12-step programs helpful. Basic Computer Literacy required. First Aid and CPR training certification or ability to complete First Aid and CPR certification training.
