The Technical Program Administrator contributes to the success of the Program Management team under the direction of Senior management. This role has accountability for independent projects that directly support goals of Program Management staff. The Technical Program Administrator will work in a cross-functional team of researchers and developers to (a) understand target market and user segments and how to identify users from both (b) engage with users in interviews, observations, focus groups and other data collection activities to understand their needs and lead the UI/UX aspects of user experience research and associated interface design, wireframing, and documentation for engaging, interactive, and innovative capabilities, (c) serve as design leads for small interdisciplinary agile teams focused on producing user-informed functional prototypes that could be tested in target markets, and (d) collaborate with both internal and external colleagues and consultants to ensure on-time completion of project goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting in the implementation of assessment design and/or conducting user research for learning applications that are visually engaging, accessible, and easy to use.

  • Working closely with assessment development staff, programmers, and UX/UI staff, the technical program administrator will assist in design and/or user research for learning and assessment prototypes that conform to ETS Labs technical and architectural standards.

  • Assist in researching and designing sophisticated prototypes for new learning and/or assessment ideas. These prototypes should be designed and researched to ensure that they accurately implement appropriate learning/assessment principles balanced with an aesthetically pleasing and easy to use interface.

  • Contribute to the execution of user centered methods (e.g., iterative usability) that will measurably improve designs and/or problem solution fit.

  • Keep abreast of trends and latest research in human computer interaction, user research, and / or design as well as usability guidelines.

  • Manage independent projects associated with the planning and production of program administrations

  • Establish project schedules, risk plans, and communications plans for assigned areas

  • Participate in defining the annual scope of work, timetable, and work plan specifications

  • Support the resolution of assessment development and statistical operational issues

  • Identify process improvements to increase productivity, save money, and improve customer satisfaction

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to the job function

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in technology-related field of study (computer science, information technology, educational technology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), user design, or web/graphic design) and 4 years of professional experience in assisting in the design/research for technology-based user experiences or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, experience, certification can be acquired is required.

Additional coursework in cognitive science, computer science, user design is desirable.

Knowledge of assessment development and psychometric processes is also desirable.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

  • Previous experience working with programmers and/or prior experience assisting one or more designers to provide or ensure that design supports usability and / or visual appeal of end product.

  • Previous experience assisting during client requirements-gathering sessions, usability testing, and design presentations is required, as is experience in storyboarding, prototyping, and graphic design

  • Being able to work effectively in a cross-functional team setting and take an active role in contributing to team discussions and decisions across a wide range of domains, and collaborate well with research scientists, assessment specialists, other designers, and / or programmers.

  • Strong writing skills, well-developed organizational skills, and a willingness/adeptness with regards to learning new technology are required.

  • Strong understanding of the requirements of each stage within the digital design product/assessment development process as well as the understanding of the principles, conventions, terminology and tools for stages in the development process is preferred.

  • Experience in assessment development and up-to-date knowledge of the industry, trends, and standard practices are preferred.

  • Experience with JIRA and Agile Management tools is preferred.

  • Knowledge and/or interest in accessibility and test accommodations is preferred
