Production Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervisor to oversee hourly employees in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will plan and assign work, implement policies and procedures, and enhance working conditions related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost. Additionally, this role involves assisting the Shift Superintendent in enhancing production, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, employee relations, performance management, and leveraging key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytics to drive operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily walks and visual inspections of the production floor to identify and rectify unsafe acts or conditions immediately.

  • Maintain safety and environmental self-audits and visual checks, champion all safety or ergonomic activities within the department, and help develop and achieve plant safety goals.

  • Ensure product quality and safety by ensuring all staff and employees understand the Food Safety and Food Quality plans.

  • Train employees on safe operating procedures, including lock-out and tag-out processes.

  • Adhere to product specification requirements throughout the manufacturing process to ensure desired product quality.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of products and equipment to effectively direct employees in their tasks.

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA regulations, taking corrective action when necessary.

  • Walk the production floor daily and hold monthly line meetings to address employee questions and concerns.

  • Maintain or exceed goals related to yields and efficiencies.

  • Collaborate with Operations Managers and Superintendents/Supervisors to stay informed about yields, variances, methods of calculation, common problem areas, and methods for corrections and improvements.

  • Suggest changes in workflow processes and equipment usage to enhance departmental efficiency and minimize downtime and product costs.

  • Analyze key product results to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and drive performance improvements.

  • Utilize metrics and analytics to monitor production performance, identify trends, and implement data-driven decisions.

  • Implement process improvements based on analytical insights to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Food Science, Business Management, Agribusiness, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervision or management.

  • Experience in the food industry is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills to synthesize complex or diverse information.

  • Effective problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve issues promptly and skillfully.

  • Excellent oral communication skills to speak clearly and persuasively, demonstrate group presentation skills, and conduct meetings effectively.

  • Proven delegation skills to assign work, authorize independent work, set expectations, and monitor activities.

  • Leadership qualities to inspire and motivate others, accept feedback, and drive performance.

  • Solid management skills to include staff in planning and decision-making, facilitate process improvement, provide performance feedback, and develop team members' skills.

  • Commitment to quality management to continuously seek and promote quality improvements.

  • Sound judgment to make decisions confidently, accurately, and timely.

  • Strong planning and organizing skills to prioritize tasks, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans.

  • Dedication to safety and security by actively promoting and observing safety and security procedures and proper use of equipment and materials.

  • Proficiency in using data analytics tools and software to monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
