Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility Unit Manager (RN) in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Assist the DON/ADON in directing day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the facility. - Participate in developing, maintaining, updating policies/procedures that govern functions of nursing department. - Ensure that reference material (i.e., PDR\'S, Federal and State Regulations, etc.) maintained at the nurses\' stations is current. - Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual - Make written & oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary, concerning operation of the nursing department. - Assist in coordinating nursing with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents\' total regimen of care. - Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions. - Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of quality assurance program for the nursing department. - Participate in facility surveys made by government agencies as requested by the Administrator or DON. - Review residents\' written discharge plan. Participate in updating resident\'s written discharge plan as required. - Assist the Director in planning the nursing services portion of the resident\'s discharge plan as necessary. - Meet with the nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the department\'s services, programs, and activities. - Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. - Complete accident/incident reports as necessary. - Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary. - Ensure that a sufficient number of LPNs and/or RNs are available for your tour of duty to ensure quality care is maintained. - Ensure sufficient CNAs are available for your tour of duty so that nursing care meets the daily nursing needs of residents. - Develop work assignments, and/or assist in completing and performing such tasks. - Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc. - Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions. - Greet newly admitted residents upon admission. Escort them to their rooms as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS: - Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/RN program. - Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility. - Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN in this state. - Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. - Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. - Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. - Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. - Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. - Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, & interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies & procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care. - Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
