Position Summary:

The Supervisor, Capital Planning manages the capital planning team within the Business Analysis & Valuation group. The Supervisor will serve as the centralized function of capital planning with respect to the Operations, IT, and Center of Excellence groups. The position is responsible for the development and quality of aggregated spend and in-service forecasts, variance analysis, reporting on major initiatives, and other analytical support or ad hoc analyses. Additionally, this position will advance budget and other process improvements regarding capital planning within the organization. This position will have a minimum of two direct reports.

Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the capital planning team, including goal setting and performance management, selection, and separation decisions, mentoring and developing team members, serving as a resource and guide, and other activities to create a productive and positive work environment.

  • Assume key role in forecasting and variance analysis for capital spend and in-service including ancillary tracking such as:

  • Monthly reporting of capital expenditures and net in-service against budget

  • Monthly major initiative dashboard reporting

  • Variance analysis and forecast adjustments including controllable costs vs allocated costs.

  • Provide analytical assistance including:

  • Development of the annual plant-in-service business plan

  • Forecast optimization and initiative prioritization

  • Advancement of driver-based budgeting and variance analysis

  • Other cost/benefit or process improvement analysis

  • Ensure adherence to governance and approval policies and procedures including:

  • Coordinate and assist in the development of governance committee presentations and material

  • Track approvals and amounts against actuals to ensure governance thresholds are being followed

  • Process improvement support surrounding the governance process

  • Assist with other organizational analyses related to capital planning such as spend optimization, contingency planning, system implementations, etc.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required.

  • Five (5) years progressively responsible reporting, capital planning, or financial analysis experience required.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • MBA or related professional certifications preferred.

Skills and Attributes Utilized in This Role Include:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools

  • Strong ability to motivate employees on a daily basis and help maintain/support a positive working environment

  • Ability to interpret key metrics to understand team and company performance and identify areas for improvement

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Scope

Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution for areas managed. Trains and develops staff, plans the workflow, and directs available resources to accomplish process improvements. Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team.

Decision Impact

Problems and issues are undefined require detailed info gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand/resolve. Makes decisions that address workflow issues considering immediate impact on own function or work unit.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
