UPMC Clinician - 7F Neuro Trauma Stepdown in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We are hiring a full-time Clinician to support our 7F Neuro Trauma Stepdown unit!

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus! $20,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with 1 or more years of experience. Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment.

7F is a 25-bed Step-Down Unit specializing in the care of neurology and neurosurgical complex brain and spinal cord damage that occurs from general trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and stroke. Our patients have often undergone craniotomies for conditions such as brain hemorrhage or tumor, biopsies, lumbar laminectomies and spinal discectomies, and lumbar drain insertion, allowing nurses to gain valuable insight into the full spectrum of the post-surgical patients. Our skilled nurses focus their holistic care on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our patients and their support system. 7F is a fast-paced environment offering the opportunity for nurses to gain valuable knowledge and experience working with a diverse and complex patient population who collaborate with world-renowned trauma and neurosurgeons, as well as a wide array of brilliant neurologists and internists to provide best possible outcomes for our patients as they transition to their next level of care. 7F is a great fit for graduate or experienced nurses to expand their clinical knowledge.

Clinicians work in collaboration with their Unit Director, management, and other caregivers to coordinate clinical activities for each shift, develop and educate staff on the unit, and improve the nursing process. Clinicians inspire superior performance on their unit through example, not only by exhibiting their own expertise in patient care assignments, but also by providing ongoing consultation and education for their team, including in-service demonstrations of new devices, equipment, and policy changes.

The Clinician, in collaboration with other health care professionals, applies superior clinical knowledge and skills to achieve quality patient care outcomes. The Clinician is responsible for providing service-based education and clinical expertise for staff including orientation and training, consultation on practice issues and general coordination of clinical activities on a shift basis. They must demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care that is relevant to patients under their care, as well as apply principles of growth and development over the life span. The Clinician also must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs.   • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates, and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition.

  • Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility, or system level.

  • Assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN or new hire on-boarding.

  • Completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience

  • Masters degree preferred.

  • BS/BSN required.

  • If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.

  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.

  • National Certification preferred.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
