Boehringer Ingelheim University Intern- Process Engineering in Pirbright, United Kingdom

Duration – 12 months internship starting September 2024

Are you studying a BEng in Engineering (preferably Chemical, Process or Bioprocess Engineering) or other equivalent degree student looking for your Internship opportunity? Boehringer Ingelheim are recruiting for a Process Engineering Student Internship position in our Engineering team at our manufacturing site in Pirbright.

THE POSITION

You will be embedded within the Engineering department and focused on process engineering initiatives. Process engineering supports end-to-end manufacturing of biopharmaceutical vaccines, ensuring plant is safe, compliant, and effective.

It is of vital importance in major hazard industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals associated with loss of containment of hazards. Effective process engineering management systems also help to optimise business efficiency, reduce downtime, compliance and protect assets, as well as business reputation.

The core responsibilities include:

• Improving equipment piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID) and documents for technical accuracy.

• Particate in process safety risk assessments and developing solutions to close safety actions.

• Assist with the generation of engineering documents for effective communication and traceability (GMP).

• Support a range of project initiatives that are focused on either process safety or pharmaceutical compliance.

REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants will be studying for a BEng in Chemical Engineering, , Process, Bioprocess or other equivalent degree.

• 3 A levels at grade BBC with at least one grade coming from either maths or science.

• Applicants must have the ability for independent travel to work and other sites.

• Applicants must be able to comply with bio-safety regulations that apply to working in a SAPO4 facility.

• Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

KEY COMPETENCIES

• Strong verbal communication skills within a business environment, able to speak clearly and fluently, expressing opinions information, and key points of an argument with clarity and simplicity.

• Strong written communication skills, able to write clearly, succinctly and correctly, writes convincingly in an engaging, structured and logical manner, avoiding unnecessary use of jargon or complicated language. Able to generate well-presented reports or other engineering documentation

• Experience with Microsoft Office essential with the ability to adapt knowledge to use BI’s local systems/platforms/technology.

• Sets clear objectives, plans activities well in advance, manages time effectively, identifying and organising resources needed to accomplish tasks, monitoring performance against deadlines.

• Able to work as team member, establishing good working relationships, adapting to the team as required; also, able to work as an individual contributor with minimal supervision. Must be highly motivated and have the ability to deliver both within a team environment and independently.

• Follows instructions from others without unnecessarily challenging authority. Follows procedures and policies, keeping to schedules but remains flexible to changing priorities.

• Professional approach to work that upholds BIs values and behaviours and complies with all legal obligations, GMP, Biosafety and HSE compliance requirements.
