Hayes Manufacturing Co., Inc. Press Brake Operator in PINEVILLE, Louisiana

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for the bending of metal on the Press Brake Machine and for operating the equipment at maximum machine efficiency, generating the highest part quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read work orders or production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
  • Load metal work-pieces into machines.
  • Set up, operate, or tend machines to bend, or straighten metal.
  • Start machine, monitor its operation and record operational data.
  • Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
  • Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades, or other fixtures in rams or bed of machine, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
  • Measure completed work-pieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  • Examine completed work-pieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
  • Clean and lubricate machines.
  • Position, align, and secure work-pieces against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the nowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High school or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints.
  • Understanding of material flow and routing
  • Must understand program editing, basic machine functions, safe operations and machine adjustments
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
