Summary:

The role of the VoIP Engineer 1 is to provide technical support for the voice communications systems utilized by the Telecommunications department, including Unified Communications platforms (VoIP), SIP telephones, analog gateways, voice recording systems, e911 systems and various provisioning systems.

This role requires an advanced level understanding of the complete SIP stack and all protocols supporting a modern VoIP / UC platform.

The VoIP Systems Engineer 1 will be required to provision all telecommunications services and provide first call resolution for the majority of reported issues.They will escalate to Tier 2 when unable to resolve issues on their own.

The VoIP Engineer 1 will routinely provide instruction and support for internal staff and interface directly with end users. They will also assist with scheduled upgrades and maintenance windows to provide additional support and as a training opportunity towards advancement. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of experience in a related telecommunications field.Basic level experience with complex VoIP infrastructures (SIP Proxies, Session Border Controllers, Media Servers, SIP Trunking). Basic level experience with Open Source Telephony Solutions (Asterisk, Freeswitch, OpenSIPs). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Basic level understanding of SIP stack and all protocols supporting a modern VoIP platform running on Linux operating systems. *Basic level understanding of TCP/IP including, IP Addressing, Sub-netting, Virtual LANS (VLANS), Domain Name Service, (DNS) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. (DHCP). *Basic level knowledge and experience with Linux and Windows server administration. *Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Excel, Word and Visio. *Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment, and to communicate well with IT and non-IT staff, with excellent written and verbal skills. *Ability to multi-task and coordinate projects and trouble tickets with multiple outside vendors to ensure timely completion. *Ability to coordinate trouble tickets and ongoing projects with multiple parties to ensure timely completion. *Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights and/or holidays, as necessary. *Ability to travel to all Temple University campuses, when necessary, that may not be accessible via public transportation. *Must be available 24 x 7 for support, as necessary. .

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
