Summary of Position: The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Business Consultant is responsible for providing consulting and technical assistance to small businesses and entrepreneurs in the following counties: Philadelphia, Lower Montgomery and Lower Bucks.  The Consultant will work directly with business owners and entrepreneurs on new venture creation including business plan development, financial analysis, market research, business management, operations and access to capital.  The Consultant educates small businesses and entrepreneurs on strategies to develop and grow and should have an excellent understanding of capital formation and lending options for small businesses. The incumbent is responsible for managing a portfolio of clients including follow-up and coordination of all activities on behalf of the client.  As part of the SBDC team of professionals, the Consultant will represent the Center at outside meetings and functions, with agencies that assist entrepreneurs and small businesses such as CDCs, banks, government agencies, professional organizations, etc.  The Business Consultant will also provide secondary interface with the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (PASBDC) State Directors office.  The SBDC General Business Consultant works under the technical and administrative supervision of the Director of the Small Business Development Center. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and at least four years of related experience in commercial lending, business management or business consulting.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: *Significant knowledge of entrepreneurship, small business management and operations, accounting and financial analysis, commercial lending, marketing, market research, human resource management, financing, legal issues *Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and listening skills and ability to handle difficult people *Knowledge of financial lending procedures *Ability to manage large client portfolio, strong organizational and time management skills *Ability to network effectively with partners and stakeholders *Proficient digital technology skills and ability to use the CRM to enter data and generate reports *Ability to travel to locations that may not be accessible to public transportation *Ability to work some nights and weekends Preferred: *Master's degree in Business Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field *Small Business ownership/experience *Experience with international expertise, marketing, micro-small businesses *Experience working in Montgomery and/or Philadelphia counties in economic development This is a grant funded position. This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
