Job Summary

The Contracts Attorney is an entry level position in the Legal Support Center. It is a key development assignment, that should lead to further responsibilies and autonomy within the Legal/ Contracts Team in SLB, with specific intent to prepare the attorney for a role within India.

  • Direct Reporting: Customer Contracts Team Manager, KL Legal Support Center

  • Cross functional relationship: Maintains a close working relationship with the India & Bangladesh Legal and Contracts Teams, Sales & Marketing Department, Business Segments, Sales & Commercial Center, Tax, Finance and Procurement & Sourcing function

The role is based in Petaling Jaya (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Review, draft and negotiate Contracts with customers and/or suppliers for the provision of products and/or Services.

  • Draft and/ or review and communicate exceptions to tender documents and RFQ´s.

  • Administer contracts, and ensure compliance with administrative procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and contractual obligations, and ensure timely internal approvals.

  • Collaborate with the Legal Department, as appropriate to ensure contractual risks are clearly identified and properly addressed in contractual provisions.

  • Upload and ensure the database is properly updated as contract changes and events occur.

  • Identify and propose improvements to existing contracting procedures.

  • Assist internal functions as required on commercial/ contractual aspects.

  • Participate in presentations and workshops related to contracting standards, processes and/or reviews.

  • Assist, support and actively participate in all aspects of Contracts Lifecycle Management and assist with developing and closing any remedial plans as required.

  • Support business operations in post contractual disputes/legal interpretation

Experience and Key Competencies:

  • Degree in Law from an India university

  • Exceptional academic scores

  • Proficiency in English

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate and interact comfortably at all levels within the organization and across borders.

  • An ability to work both on own initiative and within a team in an open-plan and dynamic environment.

  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with the ability to proactively organize and prioritize a heavy workload and demonstrate excellent analytical abilities.

  • Ability to interact and connect with customers and partners and sustain business relationships.

  • Excellent commercial drafting skills.

  • Technologically literate and comfortable with Microsoft Office

  • Willing and able to travel when required.

  • Willingness to stay and grow within the organization.

  • Commercial, Corporate, Compliance and Dispute Resolution experience will be key to future growth in the Organization.

  • Between 2–4 years legal experience.

  • Experience of working within an in-house legal team and/or in law firm.
