As a Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) Project Team Leader (internally known as 6 Sigma Black Belt), Motor Grader (MG) CPI black belts utilize the corporate CPI process and tools for leading teams to resolve product and process issues and implement improvements in production and/or on existing products with dealers and customers. This individual works closely with MG platform and major (engine, cabs, transmission etc.) system engineering teams, machine development teams, suppliers, and production facilities to identify and implement these improvements. Projects primarily support MG and Earthmoving Product design controls directly associated with MG. Projects typically address design, supplier quality, manufacturing, and/or assembly quality issues.

What You Will Do:

  • Complete 6 Sigma black belt and CPI project leader training as soon as practical once on the job.

  • Lead and manage CPI process execution for assigned CPI Projects.

  • Close-resolve 10-12 standard projects per calendar year when fully effective.

  • Plan, coordinate, and ensure execution of all team activities.

  • Maintain and communicate project status and 6 sigma phase (DMAIC) completion targets; ensure required elements of each 6 Sigma phase are completed and properly documented.

  • Escalate obstacles to timely project execution to the project sponsor and CPI list manager.

  • Meet MG, Earthmoving, and corporate CPI metrics.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree Requirement: bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  • Influencing: Strong influencing skills, capable of driving change and garnering support from stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Thorough understanding of engineering and/or manufacturing processes, enabling effective influence for complex projects.

  • Project Management: Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadline and deliver results. Ability to juggle various projects with competing priorities, maintaining focus, and driving progress across all initiatives.

  • Problem Solving : Proven track record to excellent technical problem-solving abilities, enabling effective navigation of challenges, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Top Candidates Will Have :

  • Knowledge of the concepts of six sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology; ability to use the methodology to improve the manufacturing processes and control the improvements by eliminating root causes.

  • Lean product and process development experience (effective use of Obeya, Kanban, resource leveling, value stream mapping, continuous improvement mindset)

  • Familiarity with Caterpillar corporate systems and information, including PSCRM/DSN, SIMS, RWA, SIS Web (all media types, notably PIP/PSP’s), PPRD, NPI, CPI, TIC/REDI, EDS, Weibull curve, etc.

  • Component and/or machine system level design or validation experience.

  • Experience with NPI and quality processes including APQP execution and tools.
