BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS

Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• Provide QA/QC field inspection of construction activities and contract personnel associated with expansion and sustaining capital projects for the Gulf Region. Senior inspector also supervises daily schedule of other field inspectors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Oversee Construction Inspector/Coordinator work force to include: coordinating with Project Manager to right size Inspector work force to meet construction demands

• Oversee Inspection group day to day issues and make daily work assignments; Ensure Inspectors receive schedules, drawings and other support materials necessary to effectively manage their assigned projects in the field;

• Train and orient new contract personnel to facilities

• Be the liaison between Project Managers, Inspectors, and Operations.

• Coordinate x-ray, vac truck and other field services to minimize cost impact for these services to capital projects

• Act as Project Manager for some of the limited scope, cost plus/target price type projects utilizing inspector work force as support.

• Support Engineering department goals, to include completing projects on their assigned dates and at their estimated budgets.

• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION:

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or ten to fifteen years’ experience and/or training in field construction management related to heavy industrial petrochemical construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of petroleum terminal piping, valves, tanks, and pumping systems

• Knowledge of welding procedures for API storage tanks and petroleum piping systems, welding inspection certifications desirable

• Knowledge of coating systems used in petroleum terminals, tanks and piping systems

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:

• API 653 certification or ability to obtain

• DOT O.Q. qualifications for pipeline maintenance

• Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers

• Willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment

• Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations

• Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) within 8 weeks from hire.

• Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets

• The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

• Ability to efficiently present information in a one on one setting and in small groups situations to contractors, and other employees.

• Computer skills; knowledge of Internet Explorer software; Microsoft Windows Operating system; excel spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Must be willing and able to work in the outside in the plant environment, in all types of climatic conditions.
