Forest Service Teacher Supervisor in Ozark, Arkansas

Summary This position is located at Cass Job Corps center in Ozark, Arkansas. The incumbent is responsible for supervising the academic program which includes planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of a coordinated academic program. Prepares daily schedule of school activities, arranging class schedules to meet special situations. Determine student placement and student assignment to proper classes while striving for balanced class loads and effective utilization of available equipment, facilities, and staff. Administers standardized and approved tests to determine the students academic needs, evaluate the educational program and measure student progress. Ensures that each enrollees educational records are kept up to date. Continually analyzes the education program, its effectiveness, weaknesses and progress, and revises/recommends revisions, modifications, or establishment of new policies, methods, and procedures. Establishes and communicates guidelines and performance requirements to employees. May be required to teach one or more classes on a recurring or substitute basis and is responsible for maintaining proficiency as a full performance teacher. Plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the units work. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Basic Requirement: GS-1710: Bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that included or was supplemented by supervised student teaching, and at least one course in each of the following areas: general psychology, human development, history and/or philosophy of education, and teaching methods at the learning level of the position to be filled, i.e., elementary or secondary learning level. For secondary school teaching positions, applicants must also have had at least 24 semester hours (or equivalent) of course work in each of the principal fields of instruction. OR Combination of education and experience - Applicants who have completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree but who do not meet the specific course requirements shown above meet minimum qualification requirements if they have completed at least one full academic year of professional teaching experience at the elementary or secondary school level as appropriate to the position to be filled. Professional teaching experience is defined as full and primary responsibility for the instruction of assigned students under general supervision in a recognized or accredited school or other accredited educational institution. This includes responsibility for preparation and presentation of lessons and the evaluation of students' progress throughout the learning period, including a determination of the student's success or failure according to established criteria. OR Teacher certification or licensure in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States with a secondary endorsement which must be attached to the application. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: Experience in preparing daily schedule of school activities, ensuring instructional coverage for classrooms, and maintaining educational records. Supervising academic programs and experience teaching in an academic setting covering full range of subjects. Creating and establishing a teaching environment that provides and promotes opportunities for students to develop rapport, interrelationships, selfdiscipline, and a positive self-image. Developing and managing teaching learning plans and activities, including adapting instructional materials and methods. OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree., if related. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Education Additional Information Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) or Reemployment Priority List (RPL): To exercise selection priority for this vacancy, CTAP/RPL candidates must meet the basic eligibility requirements and all selective factors. CTAP candidates must be rated and determined to be well qualified (or above) based on an evaluation of the competencies listed in the How You Will Be Evaluated section. When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100. This is a temporary promotion not-to-exceed 1 year and may be extended without further competition or may end earlier due to lack of work or funds, or at the discretion of the Hiring Manager. At the end of the temporary promotion, it is expected that you will be returned to your permanent position of record with any increases that would have been received if not temporarily assigned. If it is not possible to be returned to the prior position, you should be placed in another position in the agency for which qualified, at the same grade and geographic location as before. Should this not occur, reduction-in-force procedures may be necessary. If selected, we will work with you and your supervisor on an agreement covering return rights so every effort will be made to return you to a properly classified position for which qualified and at the same grade level. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition. If the temporary promotion is not made permanent, you will be returned to your permanent position of record with any increases that would have been received if not temporarily assigned. If it is not possible to be returned to the prior position, you should be placed in another position in your agency for which qualified, at the same grade and geographic location as before. Should this not occur, reduction-in-force procedures may be necessary. If you are selected, we will work with you and your supervisor on an agreement covering return rights so every effort will be made to return you to a properly classified position for which qualified and at the same grade level. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use. This position is not eligible for telework. This is a non-bargaining unit position. Government Housing may be available. Daycare facilities are not available.
